First Tow with EcoBoost

We had our first camping trip of the season and my first tow with the Ecoboost. I was pretty impressed with the power. My previous truck was an F350 Diesel and the Boost definitely could hold its own with the big truck. Acceleration/power and fuel economy were about the same, but I did notice a difference in ride stability. There was a little more sway/movement with the F150, but I never felt out of control. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the switch...especially since the truck is my daily driver too.

For my Expedition 5.4, 4,000 RPM is a tad over the max torque peak and not even close to redline. Yes, it's not cruising in a fuel-saving low RPM range, but it really still is the sweet spot for the engine.

Having spent most of my early years with high performance 4 cylinder engines, I'm happy running at necessary RPMs as long as the engine temps stay stable. It's what the truck was designed to do.

Congrats on the new truck doing what you'd hoped!

Exactly what I was thinking. My 2013 Ram Cummins will pull circles around the Ecoboost. The Ecoboost is a good truck for what it is made for but comparing it to todays torque monsters it is not even close in power.

Not to rain on your parade but....
Crew cab 1/2-tons run out of payload before towing capacity. Have you weighed the combo loaded-up for camping, including passengers?

That said, yeah I like my EB. No more screaming at 4000RPM going uphill. And double the range of my old Envoy.

The old truck was 2010 F350 with the 6.4L. Well, maybe it had more power and acceleration, but the ecoboost still had no problems getting up to speed in a hurry. I actually had to make sure that I hit the cruise control because I caught myself doing 120km/h a couple times with even noticing.

The F350 a great truck...I just got sick of dealing with diesel particulate filter. Other than the summer months, I only made short daily trips with it, so the DPF was more work than it was worth to me. I was a little apprehensive at first about making the switch (thinking it would be a serious downgrade in performance), but I am really glad I did.

I wouldn't dare try pulling up 7% grades or high crosswinds with that combo but, to each their own.

I was completely surprised at how 'easy' my trailer towed with the Eco compared to my old 5.4 F150... And I thought the old one was a great tow!

Truck didn't even seem to work that hard on the grades where the 5.4 was in 2nd and screaming...

That's a lot more trailer than I have, but it's nice to know I've got some room to 'grow' if needed! ๐Ÿ™‚

I never had an issue, just stating that it wasn't as stable as the F350. It still pulled great with no issues. To be completely honest, I think the little bit of movement had more to do with the crappy Saskatchewan Tertiary roads than anything else. There were big potholes, ruts, and broken pavement the whole way.

I was towing a trailer about the same size as yours and all was well until I got into some pretty windy conditions that made for some white knuckles. Made me wish for more truck or less trailer. I went with less trailer. Love that Ecoboost!

I just bought an F-150 with the Ecoboost engine and I have to say I'm impressed with the torque. So far I've only towed my trailer from storage to home but it felt great. Taking a longer trip this week with it though.
