Florida Life with a TC?

After so many years with my TC's out of sight on my driveway, I'm now relocating to Florida and it seems life with a 3500 DRW and TC is not going to be easy in these deed restricted communities. I'm looking at storage facilities ($fee) for the TC and looking for homes with oversize garages for my DRW. Is this what others in my situation do?

Thanks for the replies. The area is Melbourne, FL. My #1 priority is top schools for my two kids and that limits me (IMHO) to one area of N. Melbourne/Viera and I see now they are ALL restricted/HOA communities. I'll plan for off-site TC paid storage for now, next is I'm guessing a DRW is a commercial FL truck, so my next problem is finding a home with a deep garage as I doubt I can leave it outside.

I have a house in the west Melbourne area, It isn't in the city limits. No restrictions

We really liked the realtor we worked with - if you need one, PM me and I'll give you his name. He's a "local" (N Melbourne)

That IS a really nice area!! Our condo complex called Riverway, is at the end of Viera Blvd where it meets US-1. They will allow your truck to be parked there as long as it's not a "work truck" with advertising all over it. You'll still need a place to keep the TC, though. The HOA rules are NOT overly restrictive, IMO - or we wouldn't have bought there....LOL! And it's NOT a "senior" facility - we specifically wanted a place with a nice mix of all ages, including kids. They have 1000' of Intracoastal Waterway frontage; hiking paths, volleyball court, pool, and tennis courts.

Although may HOA have restrictions about parking a truck,(not with TC,) some do not. When it comes to "commercial," many communities define it as a truck with lettering for a business on the outside, or tools or tool rack in the bed. Regular trucks are not.

The only way you can be sure is read the covenants and restrictions for that particular HOA. A real estate agent can get them for you.

Read them VERY CAREFULLY. Many sad stories have resulted from buyers that did not.

Good Luck in your search.

In Oregon many HOA's define ''Commercial'' truck as any 350/3500. Or 10K GVW. Of course these were written back in the days when no one bought a pickup except for contractors or farmers....

Just be careful and have a really great Realtor that knows these issues. We might hate HOA rules but many people love the HOA rules and move there for the cleaner and ''better'' neighborhood feel.

What part of Florida? I live in Pompano Beach, its beside Ft Lauderdale. We can park boats and RV's in front of our places as long as they are on a concrete pad or driveway.
Most people don't use the garage to park cars or trucks. They are used for storage or man caves.

Pompano Beach is a great place, me and my wife used to rent ***Link Removed*** and have our holidays there, before we became camper folks.
We have yet to visit Pompano Beach with our Camper. Are there any Campinggrounds you would recommend?

I would want to be sure as to what the community and the city consider to be an RV. I can see where a motorhome or trailer would be considered an RV but it is difficult to call a pickup truck with a camper in the bed as being the same. Check the regulations.

You may also be able to put a "RV" or boat in a side yard or back yard and not have it in conflict. I had a house with a 3-car garage and the end space had a door at the front and another door at the rear so I could go through the garage and into the backyard where I could store anything.

Corner lots are more likely to have easy access to the backyard if this is an OK place to store an "RV". Advantages too in being located in an unincorporated area where you do not have associations or a city government.

My best advise is to stay away from a HOA. Not just for the sake of your TC, but for your overall well being. I am in one now and HATE it! One of the biggest mistakes I have ever made.

Avoid communities with HOA's. There are plenty of rural areas near most every city in Florida.
