Time for a new truck. I'm looking at a F350 4x4 crew long bed with the 6.2l. I got really spoiled to mid 16's mpg cty/hwy mixed on the F150 for my commute. So come on...I can take it. How much of a hit will I take on economy?

Very nice Joe!! Looks great, inside & out! Yup, it's big, feels like a truck, rides like a truck, because it is a HD truck meant to do work. I enjoy driving mine, even just going for a ride.

If you ask nicely...daughter may let you take the 150 for a spin once in a while. ๐Ÿ™‚

Everything but trying to park the darn thing has been great. I think it's just under 3' longer than my F150 but feels like a lot more. I'll be the guy parking a mile out at the grocery store taking up four spots.

Two days, averaging mid 12's mpg so far. Lots of stop and go.

No bling. Pretty plain. But it has everything I need. This is before tint:

I appreciate everybody's input. Ended up with a 2017 F250 XL Crew 4x4 LB 6.2L with a 3.73, power locks/windows, tilt/cruise, brake controller...and since when did XL's get a backup camera and bluetooth? Not too bad. Supposed to be delivered to me today.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure it has a 48 gallon tank. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Congratulations! You're going to love it.

I'm glad they started adding those options to XL's. I was 1/2 ton shopping 4 or 5 years ago, and those were the only options I wanted, but couldn't get them without special ordering or stepping up trim levels!

Congrats sounds like the right truck for you. The 6.2 has been a very well built and dependable engine, you should have no problems with it.

Now if I can just let go of my F150 keys to my daughter without crying. Seriously going to miss this truck. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I wish I did. I was looking at that on another model. Sure would have made life easier if I upgraded trailers.

Congrats, that should be a solid TV! I hope you got the FW prep option, just in case.:) Best get a nice pic, and get it posted soon. Mine only has a 35 gal tank, but I'm happy with that.

Congrats, that should be a nice step up in capability and the fuel tank size is awesome. "Base" trucks these days don't seem to really exist outside of some of the regular cab fleet models. I have an ST Ram with similar options on it. The only thing really lacking in my mind is the interior door panels look and feel pretty cheap. Beyond that it has all the options I need and more.

Just get the 48 gallon gas tank option and don't worry about it! You can buy a lot of gasoline with the $9,000 you'll save by going with the gas engine.

My boss gets about the same unloaded mileage with his 2016 F250 diesel as my 2016 F150 5.0 V8. Both on +1 size tires, both about 80% highway. Very similar usage and duty cycle, same mileage. Not even close on the operating cost though....not even close on purchase price either. Anything under 9K trailer, and the choice is easy.....
Apples, oranges, whatever. But it's a good example of the cost of operating.

As it applies to this situation, unless you have a diesel fetish, the gas truck will do just fine.

With emissions in full swing, diesels are not getting much better then gas mpgs... Some claim a huge amount but for us that have driven both, we know..... Also TFL just posted 15mpgs out of their trip with a diesel Chevy on the hwy. Granted it was a factory off road with a slight lift, but a lot of diesel trucks are running around here in Florida with huge tires and lifts, and despite being so called tuned, you know they are not getting top mpgs compared to the older diesels or stock versions. That Ford 6.2, Chevy 6.0 and Dodge 6.4 are all very well built gas power plants and maintenance is next to nothing... My truck get 17mpgs unloaded hwy at 70 in Florida.

I'm not buying the modern gas gets nearly as good mpg's as a modern diesel in a HD truck. My buddy has the same truck as mine but with the 6.0 liter gas, I get far better mpg's than he does.

Just my experience on my 09 6.0 gas 2500HD 4x4 with crew cab. I have been getting 13.5-15 in the city as well. Granted it wont be better as a diesel, but in todays gas trucks are far ahead of where they where 10 plus years ago in power and economy. With overall ownership gas trucks to me is just cheaper over the long term. It takes a long time to break even on a diesel. Hey I like diesel trucks to, pulled around with the duramax and a cummins. I like the power they can provide, but not the cost ownership anymore, just not worth it to me. At only 44 I want money in savings to retire one day...!!! And guys if you leave your diesel trucks stock, I'm sure your mpgs are good. The problem is that not many don't here in Florida, everyone lifts them up, puts massive tires on them and then complain about the fuel mpgs. Now the pre emission diesel trucks are awesome... very little to go wrong and no emissions choking them out or creating issues. Again just my overall experience in the years that I have been operating and owning trucks. Oh forgot on edit....tell your buddy to look at blackbear performance, I have the live tune and have got better fuel mpgs even when pulling. Again just my experience, that company does wonders for GM trucks.

I had a 2015 3500 6.0 and a 2015 3500 Dmax. Pulling 25K or so the 6.0 would get 5-6 mpg and the Dmax 7-9. The gas had to work a lot harder and it is a more comfortable experience pulling with the Dmax especially with the exhaust brake. However, gas is always cheaper here than diesel.
