Ford finally releases specs for F-150 3.0L diesel

ShinerBock

Power - 250 hp at 3,250 RPM and 440 lb-ft at 1,750 RPM

Max Towing - 11,400 lbs

Still underpowered to me(your towing preferences may be different) for the size of truck it is going in and an 11k tow rating, but I am sure there will be a market for it like the Ecodiesel. By the towing specs, it seems to be offered in the HD F150 which is something Ram needs for the Ecodiesel and its dismal payload.

Ever since Schwann's shuttered up here I can't bring myself to ever touch any other French Vanilla ice cream ever again. Nothing came close!

I think almost all of us can agree, if you are choosing a diesel to save money, I can almost promise you can save more money by conserving somewhere eles.

a pack of sigs a day is $208 a month
eat out every day is $120 a month

thats just 2

If you buy a diesel because you like a diesel then OK
If you buy a diesel because it serves your needs better OK

but you really need to put alot of miles on your truck for the diesel to save you much money, so that comes into play.

if you only drive 1,100 miles a month " this is us " it don't really pay off.

that only comes out to $30.00 a month savings, thats one time eating out with the wife.

when I factor this in with the astronomical cost to repair a breakdown on a new diesel "if one did happen" it just don't make sense for us.

PS I am a diesel guy also and have owned 5 diesel trucks and still have one for myself.

If you choose a diesel because you can't afford to feed a gas engine.....you probably don't need to buy a new truck.

Awesome post and I agree 100%! I think what you stated above in bold is the best sentence of this thread.

I bought my HD Cummins diesel for the power, capability, and towing performance versus the gas counterparts at the time and really didn't care if it saved me money in fuel economy or not. If it did not provide those benefits then I would have bought the gas engine.

It's like watching a train wreck. You want to look away, but you just can't...

For what it's worth, I hope Ford has a successful truck, just as hope Ram and GMC are successful. It can only be good for the industry and the economy.

Heck, even Ford agrees with me.

"Ford expects a 5 percent of F-Series buyers to opt for the diesel, Filipe said. But its Dagenham Engine Plant in Essex, England, where the engine is built, will be prepared to meet increased demand."

Ford Aims for 30 MPG With Launch of F-150 Diesel Engine

So I guess GM, Ford, Ram, and I do not know what we are talking about when we say that these diesels will only make up a small percentage of buyers.

It doesn't bother me at all. You feel like it is a waste and you're allowed to have that opinion. I on the other hand I don't see it as a waste and I am glad to spend it for what I gain. Some people think RVing is a waste of money while others don't. Neither are wrong if they are referring to their own opinion.

Seeing your math from earlier. I kind of have a hard time believing that.

Wait, you owned the thread. Didn't know that. If that's the case you can have the last word....as long as it's not false.

I am the OP of this thread so.....

Although nothing I have been saying is false. Even Ram and GM agree with me in expecting a low take rate of 20% or less based on their stated predictions. I guess they have no idea of what they are talking about either?

He is just trying to get the last word and I am enjoying not letting him have it in my own thread. Better grab a Snickers cause we going to be here for a while.

"Better grab a Snickers" Ok I get it now, you have been hungry this whole time and not yourself. Well I'll try to bow out then. It's been fun.

This is RV.net. Take that into consideration. Most half ton owners do nothing but commute and drive back and forth from the store. What possible reason does one have to need 135 more horsepower when it's costing them extra money (somewhere between $303 and $565 a year-a whole months truck payment for some is in that range)?

It is none of your business what reason someone has to want 135 extra power. It is not your money so move on.

Now for performance, that is an opinion again. Good for you, you made it up the hill faster than me by a whole minute, but you also got 2-mpg at that time. That is not good performance in my mind.

Good for you, your savings last month was less then what I make in 15 minutes. What does this have to do with anything?

As far as I'm concerned, you have no historical data on the subject. The one fact you reported was about a newly introduced truck in the very first year.

And it is not just me who is saying this. Even Ram and GM stated that they only expect a 20% or less take rate in their small diesels as well. I guess those guys are wrong too?

I own two EcoBoost engines and my brother owns one. Neither of us have ever bought anything other than the least expensive fuel that we can find. From what I have seen the price difference is closer to $.50/gal, maybe more.
