My fuel light came on in my new Ram 3500. I was near a diesel station so I filled it up - could only get 25 gallons in! It is a 31 gallon tank. Does this mean I have a 6 gallon reserve after the fuel light comes on?

Mine counts down to miles left to empty. Then it says low fuel. At that point with a 32 gallon tank I get around 30 in tank.

My Chevy is about the same. I have run it to empty and it only takes 19 or so gallons in a 26 gallon tank (actual fill is generally 25 gal unless I dribble it in to the very top). Most of the time I fill at around 12-15 gallons or the 3/4 full mark.

I can read the Display and it gives an accurate reading of how many gallons I have used-if I remember to reset it ๐Ÿ™‚

I considered the possibility that the tank had collapsed some amount (it is a plastic tank after all) but after checking as much as I could, without dropping the tank, I now believe the fuel level sender is just inaccurate.

My old Ford the light comes on and the over head display says 50 miles to empty. As near as I could fig it has 8 reserve but didn't push it. The sensor must be toward the back cause if you park front down it shows less fuel and if your level or front up

May be...may be not. And it's the same answer for all vehicles.

Depends where the actual fuel pick is and conditions at the time.

Better not the test the waters whenever possible.
