GMC tailgate

I don't think we've discussed this GM ingenuity but recently saw a commercial for it:

here's a video:

6-way tailgate... the must have

you can delete the option for a regular tailgate but lose the power option. this tailgate is NOT available on silverado's because, you know, they are completely different trucks.

this will definitely set the mark for the truck industry moving forward.

I saw the ad too. I like the way all the other truck owners are carrying their tailgates to the mountain.

Remember the big deal made about the step on the bumper? This is the little cut out in the bumper to be used as a step. I did not understand why stepping in a cut out was preferred over stepping on the bumper. Slippage? Blockage?

To me the GM tailgate is novel, but is not compelling as a solution to a need.
There is something special about camping in an RV.

Looks like lots of nooks and crannies to collect road grime and debris. What happens if I haul a load of dirt or landscaping mulch?

Oh wait, it's a Denali. Never mind.

How much will this increase the cost of getting rear ended?

What is electronic about it? I all looked mechanical to me.
I thought it looked very electronic, different buttons created different configurations of the tailgate. Some adjustments were manual, but a lot was electronic. Needless electronics.

I wonder how much that gimmick weighs?

Just be sure to remove your hitch first, it won't clear with one in place. Imagine that'll be expensive to replace when that happens.

That tailgate is a horrible idea for a contractor! I may eat my words, but I don't see all those moving parts being very durable or rattle free after miles and real truck use.
Heck, the easy down springs in my 2016 Chev didn't even make it 50k miles. Now it opens like an old school tailgate again.

This is just a gimmick and a sales tool for the yuppie and Saturday morning home depot crowd!
$20 says it wouldn't hold the @ss end of my camper up either!
We don't have a single truck that after a few year of work, the tailgate is dented and bowed out. Not a chance this will hold up to heavy use. It's just a heavy duty trunk lid!

The step is pretty cool, the rest of it is pretty silly, and more stuff to go wrong. KISS.
