Just got back from a great camping trip , right in my own backyard literally . The neighbors kids have never been camping , I told their father lets go . We parked the trailer facing the woods , shut off every light in the house , cooked over a fire etc , they had a great time . The father and I were talking , and he asked me when going to a campground do the kids have as much fun , Unfortunatly I had to tell him the truth , they have MUCH more fun , and so do the adults . The only thing is I spend a bit more in Gasoline .

This is when I wish I lived in a more rural area. We are in a subdivision with only a 1/4 acre lot, and my TT barely fits on the side of the house. And it faces the neighbor's garage, only about 10' away. If something ever happened to our house, I'd bring the TT to my BIL's house, where he has 4 acres in the pine barrens of south Jersey.

We usually camp at a SP that is less than 8 miles from home. More camping time, less travel time. About once a month we camp at the Bowman campground. Five acres, 30 amp service, 3 foot fire pit, and all the wood I can carry from 100 yards away. Check out time, when ever I feel like it.

I spent last weekend in a friends backyard. We had a fire, grilled out, had a few beers, and when they went to bed in there house I went to sleep in my camper. It was fun and safe.

Very cool. We camp most if the time at state parks 20 minutes from the house. Camping is not where you are but who you share it with. Great way to plant the camping bug.

Our favorite spot is about 4 miles from where we store our TT and about 2 miles from our house. Not only do we agree with you, our friends and family do too! After about 10 minutes of visiting with us they all comment on "I can't believe I'm only 'x' miles from home. It feels like I'm out in the country somewhere."

I love the line "Camping is not where you are but who you share it with." :C

We do the same. We are blessed to have 2 wonderful state parks, one only 20 minutes away, the other 35.

To the OP...glad everyone had such a great time. When the kids are having fun, it is really easy to want to go camping.

I camp in the trailer every Friday with my daughter at the house. It's an area with trees, but you can still see the house. I would like to put in a picnic table and a fire pit to make it more realistic.

having 7 acres, we camp a lot at home. It's fun! Honestly, we have a lot more privacy on our land than most campgrounds that have sites right next to each other. I think "camping" is often in our heads because we know we could just turn around and go inside the house. This is partially true... Traveling is fun... However for campfires, great treats, stories, and spending time together, camping at home can be just as good. (So long as the rule is - NOBODY goes inside the house that night)
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Wished I lived in a place where I could do this and also have my RV home and not worry about a home owner's association.

I do this from time to time with the grand kids. It makes for a fantastic sleep out, one from which grandpa can quickly recover!
