Hankook 19.5 Tires on Your Pickup Tires?

I'm considering going to 19.5 wheels/tires on my Chevy 2500HD srw carrying a AF 811. Is anyone using Hankook tires on your PU truck. If so which model and size are you using? My first preference is Michelins but they are really pricey! I only use this truck to carry my TC and it's not a daily driver or used in the winter.
All comments on Hankooks are appreciated.
Thanks,
TG

You can use drive or steer tires on the front and rear axle or even mix them. My 4wd F250 used drive tires on all four corners. My 4wd 5500 used drive tires on the four rear and steer tires up front. Drive tires have better traction but are typically louder due to open tread shoulders and they may wander more than a steer tire that is more grooved verses blocked.

Thanks for the quick reply and information......I appreciate it.
One more question....Are you using the The RM 253s on the front axle of your truck also? On a couple of internet searches these tires were referred to as a "drive tire".

Yes same tires on front. Mine is 2WD. I also use truck for hauling
gravel and firewood. I got the H range so the tires rating would
exceed the vision rims.
Delivery trucks/vans also use these tires on the rears.

My F250 had 245/70R19.5 tires that were LRH 16PR. Although I did not need all the capacity (I was usually close to 8k lbs on the rear axle), I was able to run these tires at less pressure than than typical LRG 14PR and still have the same weight rating. The reduced pressure helped the ride a little and made it easier on the compressor when I went from the 70 PSI unloaded configuration to 100 PSI which gave me 4500 lbs per rear tire.

Your GM may have some slight fitment problems with the 245's in the front. You may need to cut back your fender liner, crank up your torsion bars or run a leveling kit to keep them from rubbing.

I see that Walmart has the Cooper RM253 tires in the 245/70R19.5 on sale for a very reasonable price with free shipping to one of my local stores.
Can you expand on the truck and camper that you have these tires on?
Thanks ,

I got the H range 245/70R19.5 Cooper tire below.

I used Hankook on my 16" wheels they were great tires.
I upgraded to 19.5's and went with Cooper RM253 which
were about $1100 a set, so far I like them in mud or snow
or on the road.
I was going to get the 19.5 hankook tires originally but
my tire guy said they were hard to balance.

There were brand new Hankook tires on my truck when I bought it. I have no doubt they were the cheapest tires money could buy.

They were junk, crumby in the snow and didn't last 30k miles.

I'll never buy a set of any Hankook tires.

2nd set were BFG Rugged Trail - 50k miles. I liked them.

Current tires are Cooper Discover RTXs. Looks like I'll see 50k out of these and I'm quite pleased with them too.

All three sets are stock size.

Not a direct answer to your question, but....I have recently changed from a lifetime of Michelin usage to Hankooks. I have found the traction to be as good, the price to be much better and the durability / wear to be much outstanding. ON my truck and our Honda Odyssey the Hankooks blows away the Michelins.

It seemed to me, that Michelin was resting on their laurels and Hankook was trying very hard to capture market share.....by producing a great tire for a fair price.

Most of my vehicles now have Hankooks.....and when my boat and camper are due for new tires I am going to go with a Hankook LT...

I used DH01 245/70s on my F350 SRW with Vision wheels, and I use DH01 225/70s on my F450 with stock rims. Mine are very aggressive, and they don't make DH01s any more.

I think they are good tires. Obviously, you wouldn't be using DH01s if you aren't using your TC on bad roads. The carrying capacity is quite a bit less in 225s for many brands and Hankook is no exception.

I think you'll need at least 245s to get 4500 rating per tire.
