Hensley Arrow - Need Answer

Just finished installing the Hitch and I have a few questions.

1. it sits a bit lower than my old hitch, enough so that I am concerned it may drag or hit something....
2. answering this may answer question 1, how much tension can be on the bars? Can I tension them enough to raise the rig a few inches?
3. Since I have the 4 inch bar ( I believe) can I just flip it over and have it raise instead of lower?

Anyone with this hitch have any answers? I would greatly appreciate it!

Just put the old bar in the box the new one come in, cut a little foam if you need to. And grab your you-know-what when the UPS place tells you what the shipping for that box to Michigan is.....that's a heavy bar.

The way to post pictures is to open an account on a photo site like Photobucket or Picassa and then link to the pics in your post here.

Glad you are getting the hitch dialed in, you will really enjoy the drive to FL.

Lots of places, including our company, use the spray expanding foam to secure items in a box. This works well if you ship a lot of different size/shape items where you would need too many different precut foam inserts.

You can use any foam/peanuts/wrap that you want. The important part is to pack it tightly enough that it can't move inside the box. If it moves it may punch its way through the box during hadling by the shipping company. Some types of peanuts or wrapping may be too soft and easily crushed as the hitch bar moves inside the box. Just use your best judgement and pack it tighjt.

X2 - we even used a lot of packing tape, a lot - to keep it from moving when shipping it back.

Forgot to ask one other thing:

I noticed that the hitch comes packaged ina box that looks like a chemical was sprayed in and allowed to fill the box to prevent movement. I don;t havge that chemical so does anyone who has swapped hitch bars out here use something different to pack it with or did you just put as mich peanuts as you could?

Sorry, I haven't been able to get back here because of work but WOW!, You guys are great at helping... I have tried a number of times to add photos and I'm embarrassed as I grew up with PC's and thought I knew everything and still cannot get these pics up. Anyway, I sent the photos to Terry at HA and he actually called me in what seemed like a panic to make sure I didn't tow my trailer one inch until I made some changes that he noticed in the pics. Now thats service! -Thanks Terry!- well to make a long story even longer I recieved the straight bar yesterday and will install it tomorrow when I'm off from work and can make the trek to the storage facility and if it works the way I expect it too I will bring the trailer home for the day so I can give the girl a good bath and do some miantenance on her. I did try to turn the 4 inch drop around but that made the trailer tongue sit really high and made the rear wheels on the truck hit the top of the wheel wells. I will say that I did have the HA installed improperly to the point where it wasn't dangerous but was not providing the feel that I expected BUT it did provide a better feel then the tuned in EaZlift that the dealer MADE me buy since they never added it in with the purchase of the "paid cash" trailer and didn't install for me either. Funny, since all the issues I had with the dealer I still spent another 400 plus dollars in supplies already so they BETTER take care of me when I bring my TT in for it's 6 month in September. Wow, got off track....Were heading to Fort Wilderness soon so I want this dialed in just right before I head out.

Why don't you measure it and post it and we will let you know how that setup is compared to ours.

I have used the HA for many years and never had an issue worth considering.

Yes, you can flip the singer over and use it that way. It makes absolutely no difference to the hitch how it is positioned. A 4 inch drop stinger is also a 4 inch rise stinger. That is how I use mine all the time.

Keep in mind, you want the trailer as level as possible. Using the jacks to level the trailer is not the thing to do. That could possibly overload your front axle and affect the way the truck handles. If your stinger in the rise position makes your trailer tongue high then I would use it in the down position.

One other comment, The Hensley probably is not much lower than the lowest point of most other WD hitches. It just looks that way. Have you actually measured the differences? I have never had a problem with mine hitting the ground or speed bumps.

Ken, can you post a pic of what the rig looks like hooked up?

well, if the drop bar is the wrong one from the start I am going to be very upset if I have to pay for anything being exchanged to get the right level....When I decided to buy it I was expecting to have the financial agreement mean that the working as expected hitch to be covered by the amount agreed. Not having to exchange drop bars at my cost until it is where it should be.

I may be getting ahead of myself and even though it is low the guy I talked to at HA today said as long as it's level it's ok but I'm still concerned that if I go thru a parking lot with the speed bumps that I'll nail them!

I have a trip this weekend with the storm on us to test this out and if I'm not comfortable I will call them back on Monday and hopefully get the right bar at no cost.

If you bought the hitch from Hensley and have the lifetime warranty they will exchange the drop bar for free, you pay shipping. Your CC will be charged the refunded when you return the drop bar, If you have the manual or go to their web site and they have the calculations to determine the correct drop bar.
Thanks

You want the truck and trailer to sit as level.as possible when hitched. You can use the stinger either as a drop or a rise. When I first ordered the hensley the guy told me I needed a 2" drop bar. So I installed it and the TT was way nose down. I called back and said he must have shipped me the wrong bar, and he asked how I had it installed, it was upside down, it was supposed to be a 2" rise! I just swapped for a 4" rise when I put the LT tires and lift kit in the TT.
