How far can you tow prior to fill up?

Thinking about getting rid of the Class A and getting a different RV for traveling cross country in. So bear with me since I'm really new to TT's.

As a newbie to TT's I'm attempting to wrap my head around how far you guys can pull prior to a fillup. If all you're getting is 10mpg and a standard pull vehicle has lets say a 14 gallon tank then you must be pulling over all the time to fill up. What am I missing?

With the present 35' TT the average is 15-mpg.

36/gl tank means 80% capacity use is 28/gls.

28/gls = 420-miles

In use, just fill-up daily. Usually around the four-hour period where one needs to be out of the vehicle for an hour (best safety practice).

A larger tank will be added as hurricane evacuation is (for any vehicle given bumper-to-bumper traffic) a 3-5/mpg average. Thus, a 60/gl tank gives both the needed 150-mile evacuation distance, and around 700-towing.

In general I'd feel best about being able to move the TT 500-miles on a tank.

I once had a 79 F-150 that only had a 15 gallon tank. But, that was years ago. It had a 400 CI engine, automatic, and full time 4 wheel drive too. (Boy did that thing ever get bad gas mileage) I used to carry a gas can in the back with a couple of gallons of gas in it because it was possible to get stranded between stations. lol But, like I said that was a long time ago.

150 miles or so, sometimes up to 200 (15 to 17 gallons). That's almost 3 hours driving so I'm ready for a break anyway.

Got one of the smaller tanks, 16 gallons in 65 Chevy Van. As we get 10+ mpg with a 292 6 cyl, I start to get nervous at 120 miles. My (almost) 50 year old gas gage doesn't work all that well, so I always keep track of the number of miles traveled.

When traveling on highways in Nevada where gas stations are long ways apart, I started carrying a 5 gallon can of gas just in case. Despite 70,000 miles towing all over the western USA, never have run out.

I get 10 mpg towing a 7500# tt with Toyota Tundra, it has a 26 gal tank, wish it had larger tank. I could go 250 miles but I start looking for a gas station about 160 - 180 miles.

I have a Chevy Silverado 1500 towing 6500 lbs (wieghed at truck stop) with 26 gallon tank, get 9.5 mpg and usually limit each run to refueling to 160 miles. Probalby could streach to 180 miles if I knew of a specific destination to refuel.

Unlike most who have posted, I fit the OP's idea of a small trailer pulled with a non-truck. My Toyota Sienna minivan hold 18 gallons and I get 12 mpg when towing. So we stop every 180 miles or so.

Expedition pulling about 5000 lbs TT. We stop every 2.5 to 3 hours to refuel.
We have 3 kids and a dog. After 2-3 hours of driving, someone has to use the bathroom anyway.

36 gallon tank. 8-9.5 mpg. 325 miles if lucky. 250 is the worst I've seen with 275-290 being typical.

I preplan fuel stops for most trips, or at least have a list of good stations every 100 miles or so after the first 250 miles.

As most everyone else pointed out, the DW or kids have to stop before the truck does. That's why I have possible stops every 100 miles.

I have a 3/4 ton Chevy Diesel, 39 gal tank + 129 in the bed. I get 11.3 mpg towing a 31 ft TT Gross wt is 18,000 lb and 16-17 mpg on the road ety. I usually go 300 miles and fill out of the big tank and then I get a total of 1300 mile before I fill always having a reserve.
