I guess 80 mph is the new 65 mph

I just got back from a 7 day vacation in Myrtle Beach SC , I left Maryland and did the I 95 route . Now this trip we didnt take the trailer , ( not my choice ) Now I am running with traffic , adverage 70 to 75 mph . I was running the slow lane , I was constantly being passed like I was standing still. So just for something to do I kept count , I was passed by 47 travel trailers , and they were pulling away from me while I was running 75 mph . Both trailers and fifth wheels . These guys were moving , best part was this was in the rain , wet roads and spray . I guess 75 ++ is the new 65

I try never to exceed 65 but on occassion like a downhill run it will hit 68 like you did. No harm in that.

I've been running hard for a few days at 68mph I've gone as high as 75 on some long down hill sections and I was stressing. I like to run at 65-68

Not until I say that I stay at 65 MPH maximum, even if the speed limit is 75 MPH. It's insane to be towing a 50' 6 ton rig at speeds like that. And how many minutes are you really saving?

Yep, LT's don't give you the right to tow past legal speeds (in many states) and put yourself and others at risk.

I WAS GUILTY! I used to drive faster than I should have in my early years of towing. Sometimes I drove 70-75 MPH and even faster when passing. But one day I had a tire blowout and I learned a very valuable lesson. It's not fun towing at 75 MPH with a blowout and trying to stop. Now add other cars, trucks and semis on the road, gravel and debris on the shoulder and the safety of your family riding inside the tow vehicle to that equation. Did you ever try to change a tire on the highway?... Fun stuff!
Just got back from a trip out west going 60-65 MPH with no problems. On the way home I had other TT's and 5'ers passing me doing 75+ MPH. Seen 3 of them later on the shoulder with blowouts. Slow down! It's not worth it.

most of our trips this year have kept us close to home, less than an hour from the house. This past weekend we traveled up to the White mountains in New Hampshire, on he way home Sunday, I stayed at the posted speed, between 65-70, I was being passed by 5'ers, pop-ups, and Class A's. I was actually shocked. There were a lot of campers traveling the posted speed, and sometimes, I had to get sucked into the passing lane to pass someone moving along at 50. but didn't stay there to long!

We tow between about 60 and 62, VERY rarely over 65. Safety is pretty high on our list of good reasons, tire specs are usually for 65 max and if they're voting for 65 so are we. Both of us tow, but it seems to be leaning more toward me with DH playing solitare on his Kindle and I just feel much more in control. Gas mileage is bad enough....why make it worse. And....if you really have to be some place at a specified time, you should have left sooner.

It's not how fast your truck can pull comfortably. Its how does it stops from with a RV behind you 75 or 80 MPH the higher speeds you drive the harder it is for you to stop.

I like to see how they stop with a ST tire blowing up in to hundreds of pieces due to excess heat due to excessive speed!

Tires can be upgraded to LTs. All it takes is money and the desire for better tires. The observing posters haven't mentioned seeing any tire failures among the "speeders". Perhaps they are running LTs.

I pulled double trailers and I never look in my mirrors. Don't care what's behind me. I let others drive, I drive 67 because that's where my Diesel pulls best and gets best fuel mileage. Sometimes my CPR Certification expires right before an accident. Go Figure!
