Keystone 27' TT Honda Paired EU2000i Gens Help

Just got 2010 keystone cougar 27'. Bought TWO Honda EU2000i with kit to connect. TT has Dometic 457915701 AC 13,500 BTU. We have 43" LCD inside (antenna)and 32" LCD outside we use dish tailgater. Other than lights, that's all that we were using. Several times when AC kicked on during tailgating (Kentucky), it surged and shut down. It was very hot outside. Sometimes it was fine and other times, not. Units would start right back up and operate fine for a while. One gen is new and one is used but same kind. Ideas? Please help and thanks!

Water heater or fridge may be on elec, or your battery is low and being charged. If all you really have is AC and 2 TVs then you should not have a problem even if you had a 15000 btu AC.

If it's real hot outside AND you have a pair of hondas paralleled AND on eco throttle, even with a startup cap, yes, when it tries to start, the pair may not always recover from eco throttle to full throttle fast enough. then the AC draws enough current (locked rotor condition) to overload the genny's long enough to kick them out.

If it is doing this with eco throttle OFF, then something else is going on.

For example, is the fridge on AC? the WH on AC?

Are you using a 30 amp cord to the 30 amp plug on the genny ?

You should not have a problem running everything you mentioned with the two Hondas if they are working properly, providing 26.6 amps. The A/C is surging on start up, temporarily drawing a lot of amps. May need a hard start capacitor on the A/C to help smooth this out. Agree do not run the gennies with ecothrottle on.

I wonder if the new and old Hondas are not paralleling properly, thus not providing max amps?

Another thought is to turn the ECO throttle off as it may be a situation where the Honda's are not increasing RPM's quick enough when the air kicks on which will also drawing more current due to a voltage drop. I am able to run my Honda's with ECO throttle on, but in the past I have tried to run the air alone on one which I am only able to do with ECO throttle off.

I have 2 Honda EU2000i's that I parallel and can run everything you have listed including the microwave. I have a surge protector that shows how many amps I am drawing and with air, TV, lights and fridge I pull about 20-25 Amps depending whether the converter is running. Paralleled EU2000s can provide roughly 27 Amps. At start up air will cause a surge so it is possible you are simply exceeding the capacity of them together. Your best bet is to get an ammeter and understand how much each appliance is drawing. I recently ran a full weekend in 95 degree weather with no issue.

The simple answer is you are trying to pull too many amps for your combined amp draw with all the devices you have on along with the AC. Turn off everything except the AC and see if it still trips.

Some report success with adding, or replacing, a quality Start up Capacitor but I really don't get how that impacts the running of the AC after start up... Some claim it does.

If you want to run all those items simultaneously, you may need to get a larger generator.
