Labor Day Weekend: Where are you going?

My wife and I will be camping in the Cherokee National Forest along the Telico River. We will be taking our scooter and riding the Cherohala Skyway, one of our favorite rides, and perhaps swimming in the river.

What has everyone else got planned?

As an amateur TCer, but not camper, we are opting to head to our cottage on Pymatuning Lake and just run the electric line through the window to power the TC. Still counts as camping, just don't have any loud campground neighbors.

We call all of the three day weekends "Amateur" weekends and stay away. Drunk drivers, inexperienced campers and boaters, and obnoxious people make these weekends challenging and potentially dangerous so we wimp-out.

I understand why many go because it is one of the few three day weekends you get off from work, just be careful !!!

bbq at a friends Saturday, kayakng with same friends on a local river on Sunday, working on Monday. I avoid traveling on holiday weekends like the plague. Sept 13 we head out in the tc for 9 days well after the masses have gotten off the roadway.

Title of Thread:
Labor Day Weekend: Where are you going?

My response: No place because I can't drive.

Last line of your post:
What has everyone else got planned?

My response: Itching to go camping.

No place did I see the questions:
It is real simple: I asked WHERE are you going camping

see if anyone else was going to be in the same area or perhaps riding on the Cherohala that weekend.

If you want more specific answers, ask more specific question without making your fellow TCers try to read your mind or intention.

When I make a post, I enjoy every one's response whether it is directly related at not. Have learned lots of things from those side train of thoughts.

And my post should have made you feel better. You are able to go camping this weekend. Not all of us are as fortunate, though I guess I am more fortunate than you - because I realize how wonderful it is to be alive and share feeling with friends and family.

We're not going anywhere over Labor Day weekend but will be heading out on the 3rd to go to Indian Cave State Park in Nebraska for a couple of days before going to Winterset, IA and tour the covered bridges of Madison County and "The "Duke" boyhood home. Then we'll be off to Pella, IA and meet up with another truck camper friend of ours and stay in a campground at Lake Red Rock for a week.

We'll be heading south to Florence, OR then work our way up the coast to Seaside, OR before traveling even farther north to Hoodsport and Port Orchard, WA. If anyone is traveling that way in the next week, we might see you.

When you look at the title of my post, it is clear that I was seeking information where other people are going camping, what have they got planned. You must look at the totality of the post.

To all of those who have contributing where they are going, thank you. Another, but not stated reason for my post was to see if anyone else was going to be in the same area or perhaps riding on the Cherohala that weekend.

This will be my last comment to this topic.

Against my wishes, I'm staying home this weekend but only because I haven't been released to drive by my heart surgeon. Two more weeks though and I'll be good and itching to get the camper on the truck.

It is obvious that you do not know that the area we are camping in gets almost no visitors at any time of the year (the camp spots along the river), even during leaf time.

I know the general area you are going, but not exactly which one of those hidden gems you plan on camping in. Have stayed near the opposite end at Cheoah Point a couple of times and always find it relaxing/quiet. Have lots of areas down in the Cherokee Forest yet to go explore and boondock.

Enjoy the quiet and have a safe and fun trip.

delosholly, you posted the following "What has everyone else got planned?"

So we answered your question. It is kind of that simple. Maybe you should lighten up a bit to relax before you go camping. ๐Ÿ™‚

Opps, sorry I posted about what we were doing instead of keeping quiet about what we're doing. Just getting too darned old to catch all the nuances in the posts. Please attribute failure to comply with information requests to our encroaching senility.

Would be going to Lake Texoma but have grandson family day and graduation at National Guard post at Ft. Sill, Ok. He signed up right before High School Graduation and left for basic right after. Miss the little bugger as he's been really close to his Gram and Gramps since he was born. He got his first deer at 8 sitting in a tree with me, his granny and using my bow, 10pts! Caught his first stripped bass in Arkansas, a 13# and a 15#, at age 4 with us in our boat too. We will miss the traffic in the lake but unfortunately not on the highways.

It is real simple: I asked WHERE are you going camping, not IF you are going to stay home. So, the question that I posted was not being answered by several of the replies. I see this a lot on here. A person asks something and people reply with comments that do not address the OP's original question. I even see replies telling people how horrible something is that they just bought, even when the OP was not seeking an opinion.

Preached at, yes. Some of the replies made it clear that in their opinion anyone who goes camping over a holiday weekend does not know that it is not the "proper" thing to do.

If I had wanted to know why people will not go camping during the holiday weekend, I would have asked that question.
