Thinking about the new Lance 650......Sticker says 1850lbs including the water. How do you feel about this unit matched up with a 2500 HD 6.0 gas. I should still have about 1000 lbs for people and gear. Also how do you guys feel about running this truck or any truck at close to maximum GVWR. Will there be performance issues? I have yet to purchase either unit and am looking for a nice riding, safe match up. Thanks

Are you talking about a new truck? If yes then go with a 3500 HD.

There have been some who have even put the Lance 855s on a 2500. The only difference between 3/4 and 1 ton trucks on the later models is the upper overload spring setup which can be compensated for with aftermarket products. Gas vs Diesel makes no difference on what you are considering unless you plan to also tow a heavy trailer. You should be fine with anything Lance makes up to the 855s which has slightly exceeded my rear axle(tire)capacity but handles just fine in our Sierra mountains.

I agree on the 825 or 865, Much better layout and more room.
I was at the Lance dealer today and they had a 650 loaded on an older Ford SB.
Because of the sewer drain hanging down they weren't able to put the 650 all the forward. There was approx 18" between the front of the bed and front of camper, which means it's hanging 18" further off the back, about the same as an 825.
The 650 would probably work well on the Ram with 6'4" bed but Ford and Chev have longer beds. Check the fit before committing to the 650.
A Lance 815 may also be a good option.

For the same money you can buy a Lance 825. My F250 handles it well.
