I think the wife and I have decided on the Mesa Ridge 310bhs tt. My only concern is the 31gal black tank. Is this tank large enough in your opinions? I know usage may very, but general we camp for 4-6 days at a time.

Our TT has a 30 gallon black tank. With the wife and me, we can easily go 7 days.

I'll ask how big is too big?
We have a 32g gray and 32g black tank. We know we will come close to filling the gray in 4 days so DW will wash dishes in a container that fits in the sink and I dump it into the black tank. After 4 days we may have a full gray tank but the black is maybe half full at the most. I still have to add water into the black tank to fill it before I empty it.

It's just the two of us using the facilities.

So I'm curious, how many here have to add water to their black tank to get it close to full before draining it?

That's a considerably small tank for a trailer that large. However if its just the two of you it should be fine. I have a family of four and we used to fill our grey all the time. You should be good there.

The black is 31 gallon, the grey is 61 I believe.

Hi,

I have a 41 gallon grey tank and 59 black tank in my Fleetwood motorhome, along with a 100 gallon fresh tank. 1997 model, before the CCC numbers where used, and now they do not install nearly as large of fresh water tank, due to reduced CCC numbers.

Anyway the 59 gallon tanks is great for 2 people well into 3 weeks of dry camping. I would not worry about 31 gallons at all. Each person will not produce more than 1 gallon per day, including flush water.

Just returned from a Wed- Mon trip, 2 adults, 2- 12yo boys, per the lie-o-meter tank gauge the 39g black tank reached 2/3 full in that time.

Week or more easy for the two us with a 40 gal black tank.

We do not sit in camp 24/7. We are out and about, hiking, exploring, etc. As a guy I have no problems using the woods, and dw will use public restrooms when available (she is not happy using the woods, but will if necessary.)

We are a family of 5 and our 40 gallon black tank is good for roughly 8-10 days if we are smart about water with the flushes.

Had to dump our 27 gal after 4 days. Three of us adults. I have a feeling the grandkids contributed, as well.

It may work but it is small for a TT that size

Back years ago when we had a popup I installed a Thetford 585 electric flush porta potti which as I recall had a 5 gal waste tank ... our family of four could easily get through a typical 2 nt weekend without me having to empty the waste tank until we got home, if it was a 3 nt long weekend chances were I'd have to do it at the campground dump station on the last day. Based on that I calculated we were generating ~ 0.5 gal of waste per day per person so in theory a 30 gal waste tank ought to serve the needs of just two people for up to a month. Even if one were to double that waste rate to 1 gal per day per person that's still up to two weeks of use for two people from a 30 gal tank. Since I service my tanks with a FloJet waste macerator I have the means to offload the contents of the black tank while still camping if necessary but now with just the two of us it's rare I'd ever have to.
