I am hopefully goiung to pick up a a new TV next year. I like to keep my stuff for 10 years. Currently have a 2008 CTD that other than emissions ( problem solved ) has treated me well but want something different. I really want a new F250/350 but I am pretty scared by their 6.7 - should I be?

Yep. I prefer the Ford mirrors 90 percent of the time also.

Enjoy mine 100 percent since they are up 100 percent of the time. 😉

I admit that the ford mirrors were a selling point to me, but when I did test a ram I found them to be fine when they were in the open position.

Yep, so I drive around with silly looking donkey ears on my truck all the time. Fords have better mirrors because they work well in or out.

I have to disagree with you on the mirrors, having towed with both a new Ford with tow mirrors and owning Rams with tow mirrors the Rams are hands down a better tow mirror. Now cab size, I can't comment on the Ford.

In the tow position I have no complaints , but otherwise the Ram mirrors are hands down inferior to the ford mirrors, of course its JMHO, only towed with the ford mirrors on the Superduty for 16 years.

When the Ram mirrors are flipped up for towing, putting the small portion of the mirror down ,it mimics the ford in any position. I find the Ram mirrors in the non towing position with the small mirror to side very distracting. Getting used to them, but would much prefer the style of the ford mirrors.

This has been a pretty big discussion on the Cummins forums, with many that would prefer the ford mirrors over the Rams, even a discussion with a vendor on a conversion kit to fit the ford mirrors on the Ram truck or similar ford mirrors to fit the Ram.

Maybe with the new 2019 changes they will catch up with the ford mirrors on the Ram 🙂

I'm another one that prefers the Ford mirrors over the Ram design. Even GM mimicked Ford's design rather than Ram's when they upgraded their mirrors.

Glad you like yours, but you are in the minority here. In comparisons, opinions etc Ford's SuperDuty mirrors are mentioned as being preferred. Again, this is subjective I know.

To answer the OP's question. Is there anything to be scared of with the 6.7? Not at all.

I don't think you can go wrong with the engines on any of the big 3. It's the rest of the truck that always pushes me back to the Fords.

Yeah I'm a fan of the solid front axle,
the bigger cabs in crew cab long bed format,
The better tow mirrors, etc... you get the idea.

These are things that are important to ME, but not everybody. So it's not that I would SWEAR by it and think its better than all others, just that it works better for ME.

For some of the Ram fans it's the Cummins. They'd buy a Yugo 3500 if it had a Cummins in it.

For some of the Chevy fans it's the.........wait....remind me again...why would anyone buy a Chevy?? 😃

I'd be shocked to ever see any of issues Ford experienced with the 6.0 or the 6.4 International motors ever again.

The entire point of the in-house venture was to get AWAY from the class-action lawsuits, horrible PR, bad reviews/tests, people jumping ship with brand & image, etc.

I first saw this thing at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. They rolled out an entire stage and bunch of trailers with engines, parts, engineers on-hand, and a full cut-away of the engine on a rotating stand, etc. At the time it was HOT off the press too.

I was very impressed. The "inverted" design was something BMW had recently decided to do with the new M5 engine (and many subsequent designs) - tucking the turbos into the V creates much higher efficiency with regards to piping, heat/energy/pressure recovery, etc. It also tends to trap heat in a confined area while the rest of the (cooler) plumbing is purely induction. Really a brilliant design, both BMW and Ford seem to have had great success with it.

Like others have said, I think it allows for better access to common wear items, sensors, etc. as well. Plus the temperature separation would tend to increase reliability as well, as high temps are limited to a small area that's easy to shield.

Then again at the end of the day, the core Cummins engine still has ~40% fewer moving parts, and there just isn't any way around that with a V engine. I'm sure internal parts aren't a problem (usually) but you still have the external components. Space is also an issue if you plan on working w/ the thing yourself.

Let's put it this way - of all the people I know who own either platform, they both SWEAR by it and think it's better than the other. I don't really know anyone that regrets whatever truck they spend $60k on. At least they'd certainly never admit it. 😉

I have been criticized by FISH for saying my 11 HO Dually was trouble free with 65k at time of trade for current 15. How many miles were on each of your trucks?

I never put many miles on a truck and they are all still under warranty when i trade them.

No disrespect intended but I don't think you can realistically say they were all good trucks. Any of them will be good and reliable under those conditions. 🙂

I've had zero issues with my truck. I've owned both Cummins and Powerstroke and I couldn't be happier with Ford's 6.7.
