Load Range E tire pressure: how do you keep them up?

Soon, I will have my newer trailer, a 2014 Arctic Fox 25r. The first thing I do will be to take it to Discount Tire and remove the GYM's and put on LRE Maxxis 8008's.

My old trailer ran 14" LRC tires inflated to 50psi max. Even getting those up to pressure was sometimes difficult if I had to air up on the road using lousy gas station air. They held pressure very well, but once or twice I needed to bring them up a few lbs.

Now, these new LRE's run at 80psi. I reckon truck stop compressors will do the job but like gas stations, they're not always easily accessible. Do any of y'all use 12v tankless compressors when you're afield? If so, I'd like a recommendation for a good one. IF, that is you think it necessary.

Thanks,
Mars

Never have to add inbetween.
Weigh your trailer then go by the tire chart for the correct amount.
80 may be too high.???
I'm finding this hard to believe. I air up my Maxxis 8008 tires using my air compressor. I check them every 3-4 weeks, and they are always 5-10 lbs low.

I hate to say this but my GYMs hold air all year as well. Better mounting job? All I know is that during the summer when I check them they don't need air. After sitting all winter from Nov 1st to around April 15th or so they only drop 3-4lbs.
I'm actually quite surprised by this, so I can see why you would think what you do. I would've never figured it either.

I fill my Maxxis tires with my compressor at home and they hold pressure for months without loss.

I've got one of those pancake compressors from hazard fraught that I bought for my air powered brad nailer, and I've used it to air up the 80 psi LRE tires. It worked fine. For the money those are ok comprsessors, although the optional extended warranty is a good idea.... you'll probably need it. I did....the first one died in a few months.

Losing air Pressure----
Make sure you add metal stems to your rims before you put your new tires on. I run GY "G" rated tires @ 110lbs. I will loose 1 to 2 lbs. of air in a years time. Rubber stems tend to leak and then rot in time causing your tires to loose air.

Thanks everybody. My last maxxis's didn't lose much, just down 1-2psi from 50 every 6 months or so. That said, my cheapo harbor freight 3 gallon compressor doesn't exactly make short work of topping them off. I can't imagine how it would labor to get from 77-80psi :-0
Rather than getting a dc compressor, maybe I'll just get a stronger one for home and keep my fingers crossed I don't need to air up afield.

As others have mentioned you have something SERIOUSLY WRONG ... that is way too much loss in such a short time. Maybe a lb or possibly two, but more than that NO WAY.

I only need to add air in the spring, about 10 psi.

Normal pressure loss is bout 1 psi per month. Maybe two in the fall as average temps drop. Anything more than that you are probably leaking at the valve stems.

I do not even get that much. I seem to lose about 1 psi per year on all my vehicles. I think the old rule of thumb is no longer valid. Rubber chemistry and tire construction must have improved to the point there is very little air loss anymore.

Good tires will hold air, what can I say?

I air the truck and trailer tires in the spring. Although I have 12v pumps with me, they haven't been needed.

I carry a 12v compressor, but it takes forever to add much air. I also carry a Harbor Freight pancake 100 psi compressor ($39.95 on sale). Not very high cfm, but works fine for adding air.

But about the only time I ever add air is at the beginning of each new season. Usually add 2-4 lbs and am good the rest of the year on my Michelins.

I use my Honda 3000 generator which is mounted in the truck bed along with an oil less cheapo air compressor and 50 ft hose.
