Locked out?

Have you ever locked yourself out of you TT or other RV?

If so how did you get back in?

My wife wears the extra key around her neck. Apparently I am not fast enough getting the door open from time to time. 🙂

yes had to send a young family member through the storage and up through the table bench. now spare key is hidden close by

I love the combination lock on my F-150. I don't need to have the keys in my pocket all the time. I can hide them inside the truck and lock it up. The TT keys are on the same key ring, and will either be in my pocket or locked up in the TV.

This is a different reason for lock failure than what the OP was concerned about but is one RVrs should nevertheless be aware of since so many are equipped with locks supplied by Fastec Industrial which in 2013 issued this Fastec Lock Recall. Anyone who has this lock would be well served by checking to see if any they have are covered by this recall as there's no sense getting locked inside your trailer just because you couldn't be bothered to check this list. :R

A dealer master key will only open the dead bolt lock, not the lock for the entry door latch itself which requires the same number key as the lock to open it.

We had a neighbor once where it happened too, my daughter was small at the time and got in through one of the cargo doors and opened it up for him.

While we were camping on year, my mom and aunt decided to lock their purses in their car instead of the pop up. They both had a set of car keys in their purses.... AS you guessed, you locked both sets in the VAN!

Why yes! We had our first pop up, and we went to the beach 200 miles away from home. We left the keys for the popup door AND the trailer hitch lock AT HOME! We had to drill the lock out on the door and took the entire hitch off the vehicle.

Our neighbor bought the same model pop up and lost his key. Our now useless key fit his door.

Our neighbor moved from a PU to TT. They managed to lock the keys inside? I'm not sure how. So they borrow our child to slide in the storage compartment to pop up though the seat to unlock the door.

Not if you have a new Thor brand RV/trailer with the key-a-like system, couldn't find a single locksmith or key copy place that carried them and I called over 20. Ended up calling the largest Thor place in the area and verifying they had my key number in stock when I broke one of my two keys the day before our first trip. Now we have 4, one for each of us plus one for the truck and one at home.

I did get locked out of a different TT once. I had a key but, the door latch broke and I was stuck outside. (Why do TT manufactures always use such cheap door latches). I was able to remove a front window from the outside. Then I borrowed a little kid from someone camping near by and shoved him through the window. He opened the door for me and I threw him a fiver.

I once got LOCKED INSIDE my TT.

This was back awhile and I had a 14 foot TT. Basically just a bed on wheels. The door latch was screwed so I put a hatch claps on it and used a pad lock. One night a friend thought he was being funny closed the hatch claps and put a clip thought it. In the morning I couldn't get out. I had to take the screws out of the window on the door, remove the window, and reach out to undo the latch.

I was not amused.
