Another misquote is the requirement of requiring a commercial driver's license for pulling the 30k trailer. In SC at least, I can get a non-commercial license which allows me to drive a combination vehicle over 26k.

I for one am tired of the tow rating game and wish they would get into the mpg game. I would much rather have a truck that would only tow 20k pounds but get 20mpg while doing it.

You have to read the sentence before where they talk about tongue or pin weight being loaded on the rear axle. The 9750 is the RAWR for this truck not the payload. My 05 Ram has a RAWR of 9350 so it's went up about 400 lbs in 8-9 years. Not enough for me to warrant spending over $50,000 to haul my 5000+ lb camper. Who ever wrote the article did a sloppy job of explaining the facts and numbers.

Agree, that article linked to sure appears misleading.

Perhaps those numbers are in line for a 5500 series, but certainly not anything up to and including the 3500 series.

12,300 GVWR for crew cab long bed 2013 ram 3500 SRW. Payload is over 4k. Pretty crazy numbers for a SRW truck.

5500 uses 19.5 inch wheels and tires. Tires can easily handle 4500 lbs each. So with dialog your looking at 18k for back axle Tires will not be the weakest point

Where in the world are you getting 9750 pounds of payload??????

Outrageously high number.

The 2013 Ram Camper Guide lists the highest payload at 5750 pounds for a regular cab, two wheel drive SLT/Tradesman version.

From the article:
But a good measure of how a truck can tow a commercial gooseneck or recreational fifth-wheel trailer is how much tongue weight can be loaded over the truckโ€™s rear wheels. The new Ram heavy duty truck can take up to 9,750 pounds thanks to the stronger frame, suspension and driveline. Nobody else comes close.

I smell cow pies. Can someone step in here and tell me what they are using for tires?

The article mentions and obviously includes the 4500 and 5500 versions. A payload that large on a 5500 would be in line.

:B:S Finally a tow rating that makes sense with payload. Tow rating of 30,000# means 6 to 7 thousand lbs pin wieght. With 9750 available plenty left over for fuel, people, stuff.
