loud generators

We try to boondock when we get out but some of the places we like to go boondockin is limited. As a result we will stay in a campground . They don't offer any type of hookups only a table and a fire ring. I find that the most obnoxious , rude and offensive part of the campgrounds are loud generators. Here is a tip for those that are not sure if you own a loud generate..... when you turn you generator off and people in other parts of the campground start applauding and yell out "thank you". You have a pos generator....... If while you are standing within 20 'of your generator and you are trying to have a conversation with your son but to everyone one else it looks like you are yelling at him and your throat hurts.... you have a pos generator. ... here is the best way you can tell. If your generator is a different color then Red or Blue or doesn't say Honda or Yamaha.... you own a pos generator. If you are camping near me your pos generator will have a catastrophic failure. .....

Here is the bottom line. If you have a nasty loud obnoxious generator and you are not a total moron you are aware of it. So please be courteous of others around you. If you are not aware ,than you are the he same guy that licks his fingers as you work your way through the salad bar. Same guy that takes a phone call in a movie theater. Same guy that can't be bothered with putting your shopping cart in the cart corral at the store. Same guy that goes to return something without a receipt. Same guy that chews with your mouth open and burps at will on the first date. And my personal favorite. the guy that rips a** wherever you feel like but particularly likes to when lots of people are around and they have no way out.
So there is no hope for you.. and you will defend that pos generator to the end.

And YOU get to decide what is or is not a POS? You wan't others to be "courteous" yet you are incapable of tolerant? Pot meet kettle.

We generally don't carry our yellow unit because we always stay somewhere with FHU. We stopped at a city park RV park to stay Friday night. Nice quiet park in a small Texas town.

Unknown to us they will not unlock the pedestal after 8pm and we rolled at 9:30. It was 85 degrees and as humid as could be. DW is screaming AC.

I read all the rules posted. Nothing mentioned about quiet times, no generators, etc. If I had yeller with me I would have fired her up.

As it was we roughed it out with a fan powered by our inverter.

I enjoy our travel trailer (wish we were able to get out more), have a generator and only use it when needed (charging batteries up, heating some water when propane side of water heater wasn't working). We scouted some new area a few weeks ago, more primitive and less people. We plan on some trips there next year...

Funny story...
A few years ago, went to forest service campground and were enjoying the quiet... A couple a few sites over got out their yellow (don't know the brand, but could see it was yellow) generator and ran it 2-3 hrs in morning and lunch time and dinner time... guessing the microwave was cooking meals and then the AC was running to keep them cool... the second afternoon, the generator was running crappy and the more the guy worked it, the worst it got until it finally quit. It was good entertainment and much quieter after it quit... or so we thought. The generator was drowning out the multiple family group tent camping nearby.. Their singing (after some refreshments) was terrible, wished the generator was running again... we just ignored others, we were there to get away from our daily grind, not to get upset with others doing the same in their own way... we had the generator along, but never had the need to use it..

Lots of quiet gennys available from Champion and others. Honda and Yamaha are not the only ones.

Wow, as always, nothing gets accomplished. The folks that participate in these forums are good people.
When something or someone bothers you. Go over, BE NICE, and ask one question. Are you a member of RV Net, Good Sams, etc ?? Odds are, they are NOT !! Tell them to sign up so they can be educated and be smart HAPPY campers or RVers.. Ranting on here just ruffles the feathers for some.
Its obvious winter is coming. Be happy :):)

Red, Blue, Yellow, Green.. Should not matter. Equal rights for gennys...:)
Full timing it since July 2012

The theme of the tread didn't start out anti generator. It started out with those that have/ can afford the red and blue ragging about those that don't have them. It has progressed into the people with the silent solution telling them to not beat their chest too hard.

We need to have a noisy zone for generators and load music so they can all enjoy their camping style together.

I far prefer to blend in with the tent campers that prefer to enjoy what nature provides.

For you anti-generator folks, keep in mind that many of us have been campers for a long time and have now aged a bit. We still love to camp(RV) but we want more amenities and would never go back to tent camping with no elec. etc. We especially want to keep warm and comfortable; thus the generator.

Wow, this thread has been so good that I overlooked this outrageous post. Looks like all of this dude's posts are mean and hateful (all 3 of them). Listen Gobblinsvalley, I'm a smart fellow; very considerate to others and very aware/observant of my surroundings. That being said, I would manage to forget all my manners if someone like you pulled up next to my campsite. I can clearly observe that you are of a different mindset and philosophy than me. Who is your favorite liberal hero, and how does that person influence your feelings toward the country that let's you live in freedom?

I have two righteous 4WD trucks. Chuck Norris is awesome. Horsepower is exhilarating. Is there anything else you'd like to get off your chest? :R

So what happens if you return from dictating to others what they are allowed to do and you find someone tapping their fingers on your Honda? Do you think the people that spent buttloads of money on solar or battery banks did it to listen to your "quieter" generator? Spend some of that cash and put some panels up and get back to nature. The tenter in the next site will thank you.

The reality is that if you are going to put yourself in close proximity to others, it requires consideration and tolerance. We rarely use campgrounds but when we do we know they will be noisy, even the ones with electric. There will always be something to complain about if you are into that sort of thing.

OTOH if you want some real peace and quiet, you can stop fake camping in the storage lots, turn on the four wheel drive and follow me. I'll make sure you don't have to listen to another generator or anything else for that matter. Your tires may get nicked and your rig scuffed a bit but that's the price we pay for quiet, or in your case, quieter. Afterwards we will continue on because I ain't listening to a generator.

Talk about righteous, you seem to think everyone should play the game the way you want; and if you don't want to play by my rules, go home. You have no right to call someone an ******** just because they don't conform to your rules. My constitutional right to freedom says I get to go camping any where it's allowed as long as I am camping within the rules. If you don't like my constitutional rights maybe you should find a country where the constitutional rights are more to your liking. After all, I may have different priorities, like taking car of my 93 yr old mother, which don't allow me to buy a $2500.00 generator. Sorry you don't think my Freedom is worth anything, but it trumps your dictatorship any day.

We are solar and use a H 2000 for backup. I have only had to break the genny once this year. When I do use it its only for the task at hand. I guess if your in the south or a highly populated area you have no problem with the sound of a construction type generator heating water all day.

I think it would be reasonable to set some decibel limits in any campground that can be reserved on line ththrough campusa or reservamerica. I'm not against the use of generators but the loud ones are horrible.

The last trip we took the guy across from me had earplugs in while he was unloading his truck and near his generator. He even paid for the spot next to him so he could run a 100' cord to his rv because the genny was so big he could not move it by hand.
