loud "pop" out of TT axles

On friday afternoon i was backing my TT into my parents driveway which is kind of steep and i was taking a pretty good angle at it, but when backing in I could kind of feel one of the tires binding and then a "pop" sound....i can almost compare it to what it sounds like when a detroit locker unloads under a lot of pressure...is this supposed to happen? to release the pressure on one side to allow the other side to turn? thanks for any help~Chris

It is normal even when new, but check your wheel torque anyway…

Also your OEM suspension will have worn bushings in only a few thousand miles… a few thousand more the bolts and hangers will have noticeable ware also…

I grease shackles, springs and most of in between before every trip and it greatly reduces noise from trailer. I thought it was the hitch and ball at first.

Yes tandem axles.

Check your springs, shackles, bars, chains etc and then no worries.

I'm guessing you have tandem axles, if so it is normal. If you have a single axle you have a problem.

yes i'm positive this noise came from right behind the tires....in fact if I remember correctly they after the pop the wheel that was the culprate started moving again...

Mg axels will not pop on our travel driveway while I jackknife while backing it out but will pop while backing on concrete or pavement. Never seen any damage and hear other trailers doing the same.

yes the tires and axles pop when turning deep. Not recommended but will not ruin them. Im sure they are ok

I'm confused are you referring to the ball on th hitch? I'm talking about the tires and axles themselves.

I had a travel trailer, never greased the ball, never heard a pop. Maybe just lucky.

We've been at this campground (Starve Hollow State Recreation Area) for 5 days now (leaving tomorrow). It has been a long time since we've camped over a long weekend. We arrived Thursday so we had the advantage of watching everyone come in on Friday afternoon. And Sunday morning had the opportunity to watch everyone leave.

I was shocked at how many, and how loud all the popping is with travel trailers! Mine pops with the sway bar on, but several of these that passed right by us did not have sway bars, ... pop, pop, pop, ... crack, crack, crack ... all the way down the road. Not just 1 trailer ... almost ALL of the them ... Makes me wonder, does anyone ever grease their ball?
