Metal storage cover

I recently moved into a new home. My RV parking grew from my last home and i just finished up the fence and new RV gate. I have 14'8" from my fence to my home. My last home only had 11' so I had a soft cover, which I didn't like anyway.

So, considering a metal carport to put in. Who has one, did you go through a company and what size? I can put a kit together easily but if a company can do it cheap...sure. I do have concrete so there is that. My home is a two story so no height restrictions.

used would be awesome, don't see them for sale often though..

I could go 50' with mine. Are they easy enough to add on to say....down the road I have a long bed camper? Good point on thinking ahead. My boat is 24' long now, it has an offshore bracket.

I have a 40' long one for my boat and camper. Wish it was 50. The back of the boat sticks out the back of the carport around 6 feet in the winter with a tarp coming down off the wakeboard tower.

I keep the camper in front of the boat mostly and like having the nose of the camper under the carport at least a foot or two. Reversed, you can stick the back of the boat under the nose of the camper but it is difficult to access the rear of the boat because the camper will be lowered down on the jacks for stability.

Started with a short bed camper and a 21' boat like yours. Now have a long bed camper and a 24' boat...

I found my carport on Craigslist for $1K, but had to take it down from some guys place, haul it to mine, and put it back up. Had it for 4 years now and no problems

Check your codes to be sure it is legal to build against your fence line. I have to be 20 feet off each side, 20 feet off the rear and 50 feet off the front property lines with any kind of building or awning. Codes vary by jurisdiction, zoning classification and by property size.

So quick update. In contact with United Carports as recommended.

My size restrictions have me limited to 13' wide. I'm going 40' long. Now....12' legs is max before price starts to jump...it was recommended going 14' and it is an option ( I'm not limited by anything but my pocket book) so trying to figure out where my money goes furthest. The rear will face south and west side will have my house blocking about 32'....pay to have the rear enclosed and part of the west side. My neighbors home will block most all of the east but it will be open to elements. I think two panels will bring it right down to the fence line IF. I keep it at 12' tall....otherwise they would charge for three panels.

I've got $3500 to spend but can stretch it to $4000 if those enclosed options are worth it. FYI, my TC will be at the back and boat in front so the rv will be most exposed....and I'm ok with that. I do want to protect my investments.

I forget the brand (probably something more local to Michigan), but in 2004, we had an 18' x 28' galvanized-w/horizontal siding "carport" installed, and it still looks like new despite HUGE snow loads.

I used West Coast. I'd use a tarp before I used them again. They're shady, always a different story why my building wasn't done. It took a little over 4 months to get my building. Best reason I heard was there was a metal shortage in the country so they couldn't get the sheet metal.. I got my building very soon after I called BS on that because I purchase direct from a sheet metal mill who actually has a mill that makes the formed roofing material.

Thanks! Salem is 17 miles from me, I'll give them a call.
I used West Coast Metal Buildings for mine, as did my next-door neighbor. Took them a while to get up here to install it (they need several orders for an area), but once they were here, they installed it in a day. It's 33' x 13' with 12' legs. It wasn't cheap because I went with several upgrades and custom sizing. I've had it 3 years, and no complaints.

Well, one. I needed to notch the front gable to get my TC in (had a TT before). I want to reinforce the notch with another section of their tubing, but it's proprietary (2.25" galvanized). Can't find it anywhere, and they charge $50ish for the metal and $150 service fee to get me an 8' section. So I need to come up with another plan.

Them being local to you should make getting your RV cover a snap.

west coast metal buildings complaints

Just to clarify, there was a huge problem with "Northwest Metal Buildings" out of Hillsboro and they are not West Coast. West Coast has had their problems, but probably nothing like the sub installer (Northwest). I suggest that many have written 'reviews', such as on Yelp, and flagged the wrong supplier. Kinda like the link you pasted that is for Northwest. Just FYI, West Coast cut them off years ago.

Shop around; the industry is a bit flakey. It's low ball for sure, but as in most of life, you can have two of the three; speed, quality or price. Pick your poison.

I originally had 2 of tarp garages put together for my 40' conversion.
To raise the garage roof, I bought fence pipes and pound them into ground well enough to withstand winds. Clamps that also come from fence system hold the desired level.
The tarps deteriorated in couple of years, so I put thin metal roofing with self-drilling screws on it.
It's been working like that for 10 years.
The coach on the picture is gone and my camper now sits ther.

I used Carolina Carports for my Camper Cave...
No problems with the install and it still looks great.

Looks like they deliver/free install in your area.

If you are really serious then I would recommend the following.

13 ft legs minimum ... Easy to work on the top of the camper when off the truck... And the camper/truck on 4wd should fit with the closed gable ends.
14 wide minimum
25 ft long minimum... My camper and truck is 20 ft... I wish I would have gone with 30 ft.

Get vertical siding and vertical roof..

Water runs off easily on the vertical roofs along with snow. Vertical sides do not collect dirt and moss etc with vertical sides. Easier to clean too.

Here's mine.. Wish I would have got the vertical roof and sides. Did not know about that option.

I just finished a new Metal workshop 25x30... Insulated, 13 ft walls 2 roll up doors... 16x12 and a 8x7... I ordered it from United Carports. I notice that they are in Oregon too...

3 day installation.... The install team was outstanding! Not saying that in other states the service will be as great..

If ordering you need to understand all the segments of the configuration/build. I added full certification, thus the plans were included for permits if needed or wanted. Heavier steel wind/snow ability. Would be glad to help... PM me if you need pointers.

I had a VersaTube metal structure installed 10 years ago and it is nice. Yes, make sure it meets your towns building codes. Mine will handle a 65 lb. per sq. ft.snow load in a 90 mph. wind load. My town only allows 1 garage structure per home without going thru variance proceedings, so my building inspector decided to call it a picnic pavilion, due to the fact that I didn't close the ends and only brought the metal siding down only 6'.
Good luck.
