Might be buying a Dually....

Darn it! I might just be growing up after all (no offense to those who don't agree with my reasoning)....

I love my F350 SRW and have done a lot to it and put a lot of miles on it with the AF990 on top....but....I have only two wheels on the back end and this has started to cause me concern. I keep thinking: what if something goes wrong? a blow out?

I've found a 2019 F350 CC PS 4x4 Lariat FX4 with 14,000 GVRW package for $61k which seems like a pretty good deal (it's white though and I prefer Red or Blue to white)...and am thinking that I just might pull that trigger.

Of course it means installing new tie downs as I'm thinking my old ones won't work with it (2010 SRW) and I'll need swing outs (can't believe how much those cost) but really should be able to stop there and get rolling again from what I'm hearing.

Only thing besides the color I'm not overly happy about is the 4.10's in the rear end. Sure, it will feel like a hotrod and all but I'm thinking 3.55's would give better fuel mileage on the highway.

Anyway, there ya have it. I'm thinking more of the safety factor of 2 vs 4 wheels (never did worry about breaks etc and the SRW with all the mods seems to handle the load WELL).

Course, now I have to stop passing DRW's and saying "see he's rockin' and rollin' worse than we are" since he's got 4 and I've got two and if two is one and one is none then 4 is more ๐Ÿ˜„

4x4 of course... never buy a 2wd in Pacific Northwest!

"Laughing"..I here this all the time and a 2WD dually works just dandy in the snow,we get a lot of it..

Last year I tested my son's 4X4 Chevy 2500 HD against my 2WD dually, both in 2WD...He was shocked and disappointed to find out that in 2WD the Dually smoked his in 2WD..More meat on the ground..

Think about the UPS Dually trucks..They get there cargo delivered and in some very heavy snow,Elk City here for an example..The school buses are all 2WD duallies and the kids get to school..

And get this, some of our city snow plows are 1-Ton dually's with a dump bed filled with snow..And ofcourse the semi's or atleast some, do not have lockers to lock both axles in for the 4X4 effect,kinda...

A 2WD dually does just fine in the snow if the driver does his part..I probably have the record here for chaining up semi trucks..Several times a day they went on and then off day after day in the snowy mountains with logging trucks...

I bought a 2WD dually because I new the worst I would have to do back in is chain up and it was what I wanted minus the 4X4..The right tires and chaining up is not very often..

Tires and the driver is everything in the snow SRW or DRW..

Noted on the sleeve, and thanks.

toddb what did it do to your mileage? On my old truck a 4500lbs trailer dropped me about 2mpg overall.

Are you sure itโ€™s not a 3โ€ hitch receiver?

Ok, cool.
Be careful about extended or heavy use with the reducer sleeve. I've had to cut more than 1 bent hitch pin out of our work trucks due to the reducer sleeve.

I made my own 2.5" 24"L as well. industrial metal supply here sells the receiver tubes, I pull an open car hauler and mustang at about 5000lbs.

Thanks again -- yes $61k....I couldn't pass it up!

I was hoping to tow a Mustang on a car trailer so the overall weight would be about 5000lbs and tongue weight about 500. Seems the 24" 2.5" to 2" extension on Amazon lists a 600lbs tongue weight.

Torklift now sells the Cannon for the 3" Ford receiver, but nothing for the 2.5" receivers on the market. It depends mostly on the tongue weight of what you wnt to tow whether you spend money on Torklift products. A 24" length, 2.5" diameter single extension should be good for about 500 lbs tongue weight.

If you got a Lariat diesel for $61k you stole it. Congratulations.

Thanks all,

Should be getting the new tie downs this week and am trying to locate some Rieco-Titan Swing A-Way brackets locally so I can test the truck out this weekend (it's either that or wait till they arrive from amazon which might be the following week ๐Ÿ˜ž

Also have to decide what to do with my Supertruss. The new hitch is a 2 1/2" hitch and I see I can get 24" extensions for it that neck down to 2" and am wondering if I should just go that route? Otherwise I'd have to get a SuperHitch now too (what's that these days? $650?)

Probably not much call for selling a 2 1/2 inch hitch....too bad I hadn't tried to get that in the loan on the new truck....ahhh well.

Just hauled home a new to us camper from Portland, OR to Nor Cal on our new to us (last year) โ€˜11 Ram 3500 DRW. Our old beloved truck was an โ€˜01 Ram 2500 SRW. What a remarkable difference in ride and handling our new old truck provides! Granted there are many differences in interior & motor (6.7 vs 5.9) but wow. All I added was air bags on the 3500. Smooth ride and great tracking around corners. DW is a much more comfortable copilot after this trip. I guess it was a long five years for her on the road in our previous rig.

Great looking truck, that AF990 is going to look and ride nice on that truck. Enjoy.
