Monitoring DPF Cleaning on 2016 F450 KR

Just bought the truck below a few weeks ago, and still learning all of it's new features. On my old truck (2010 F450), I could monitor the exhaust filter cleaning by running a system check using the buttons on the right side of the instrument panel after seeing the initial "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" message appear. If the truck was still cleaning the exhaust filter, the last message displayed by the system check was "Cleaning Exhaust Filter". I was in the habit of monitoring how long the DPF cleaning cycles were, and how many miles it went between cleaning. How can I do that on my new truck?

I've driven it just enough that I saw it cleaning the exhaust filter one time. A message appeared on the info display for a very short time, then disappeared. I could never find anywhere that it indicated that the exhaust filter cleaning was still going on, so I never knew when it completed. Is it buried in there somewhere and I just missed it?

I've been reading the owners manual, but I haven't had time to read it cover to cover yet. Too busy trying to earn grocery money.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Not sure if this will help you, but time wise, I could've sworn I read someplace that it takes 10-15 minutes under normal conditions to complete the process. Don't have a "countdown" feature on my semi. In fact, it does it automatically and no msg is ever displayed. If manual regen is done, has to be parked and button pushed to do so. I'd like to see a hi idle option for pick-ups.

NRA,
I posted a link to a owner who just had his dealer activate the Percent Soot in the DPF filter. I'm not sure what is the correct term but ask to have this feature "Percent Soot in DPF or Exhaust Filter Percent Full" and they should know what your asking for.

Link

I really like this feature.

Thanks Troy. I was hoping for a more direct way of monitoring it. If there isn't using the trucks info display, would an add-on device give me more info? Would an Edge Insight tell me what I'm wanting?

Yes I believe some are using the Edge product to monitor there regens.

Also does your '16 have the upgraded info dispay feature that gives you a percent count down to when the truck will go into regen? If not your Ford dealer can perform a program upgrade to include it and that could also work to monitor when the regen process is complete.

Well, to be honest I'm not sure about my info display. I know the owners manual refers to it as a "Type 2" display. It looks like this:

While driving, the instant mileage displays as a green bar that rises and falls. The vertical scale is from 0-30 mpg. You can't get very precise information from it other than you are either getting "more" or "less" than your average mpg.

The "System Check" on this truck is under the Information icon, and is a two page screen that's continuously displaying several items, none of them having anything to do with exhaust filter cleaning.

This is page one:

And this is page two:

If there is some upgraded software that would enable this display to present more information, I'd like to try that before spending over $400 on an Edge Insight. What do I need to tell my service advisor at the dealership in order to get the info display upgraded? I have a feeling they aren't going to know what I'm talking about. I hate it when I get that "Deer in the headlights" look from them :B

Thanks David, that sounds like a great product. From looking at the Edge website, I think the Insight CTS2 - 84130 is what I would want, but the Edge website doesn't seem to support the 2016 F450SD, so I can't say for sure that any of their products would work on my truck. Seems like if it works on the 2016 F350SD then it would work on mine too, though.

Wow... That truck looks like a jewel.

When your truck goes into regen switch over to the instant fuel mileage screen. When the regen process is complete the instant fuel mileage ready will go back up.
