I'm trying to sell my '97 F350 powerstroke. Its a crew cab long bed which isn't great for truck campers longer than 8'. Single rear wheel. 3.73 gears mean better fuel economy. I can really see the difference in engine speed between it and my "new" '96 F350 DRW 5spd at the higher road speeds. I wish I had a friend to unload it on to but all my friends don't know what a treasure it is in its condition. :h
I don't get buying new trucks but that's probably because I try not to buy things that I can't work on myself. I can swap a fuel injector in the 7.3l in less than 2 hrs. Also I can't fork over 60k for a newer truck. Got my debts down and I'd like to keep it that way!
We took our 1999 Lance 1130 out with the '97 SRW and we were 1750lb over on the back axle. Mind you these older trucks had a SRW GVWR of 9200lb. Had to get the dually just for the tire safety factor.
That's cool that you were able to change your brakes at the campsite. Do you carry socket wrenches and mechanic tools with you when you travel? It was towing so maybe you had enough room in the trailer to not worry about weight. I had to filter out the tools I really feel I need. Or really want to need (a 120v stick welder somehow made the cut).
Good thing they were discs and not the rear drums. After doing drums a few times (with screw drivers and pliers :p) I can say for sure I wouldn't be a happy camper doing it at a campsite.
