I have a similar setup, only narrow to fit between the lights. The purpose of mine is to bridge out over my trailer tongue and turn the steps 90 degrees for a side exit.

If anything a porch is SAFER because it allows you a wide stable place to step out and get your bearings before negotiating the scissor steps to the ground. For anyone of any age.

Plus you may not want to stand on the ground, such as in the case of wet muddy conditions. Sit on the porch under the awning and enjoy the rain, high and dry.

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

Can't help noticing that those platforms are mounted on rigs where camper bumper is less than 30" above the ground.
Would you do something like that on 4W with floor at 36" it would make totally different comments.
Virgil_Diesel where did you get your platform? Looks like commercial liftgate?

And older people who like to drink and dance in the dark.

I like that idea of a folding porch, not see that before. It gets it out of the way while traveling. Looks like it blocks half the stop light/turn signal however, might be a liability in that sense.

If you do any camping on the beach a porch is a much needed option, being able to get the sand off before entering the camper helps a lot with cleanup. Also on some designs its a great place to store your grill and wood. If you are older you can add a handrail to the steps and don't allow drunk ppl on your rig. I have seen some add LED lights around the porch so you can see it better at night.
