Necessities for a new Travel Trailer

We just bought our first RV (2017 MPG 2800QB)and I am trying to figure out what are the necessary items that I need to purchase. We are picking up tomorrow and finalizing the paperwork and want to be prepared so I am not sold a bunch of items I don't really need. I already have a sewage line (bought when renting one time) and the standard family camping equipment. We mostly will be doing our camping at sites equipped with hook-ups for now. Any help will be appreciated.

I agree. I have Stuff in my TT. Can't even tell you what it is. Can't remember but the nose comp. is full of "Stuff" in case you want to borrow my stuff.

IMHO the MOST important 'must have" is a Progressive industries Electric Management system! I had a $50 surge protector our first season, then read all the hundreds of comments on Amazon about how amazing Progressives portable or installed units are to prevent BIG $ of damage to all your expensive electronics, AC and Fridge! I spent $269 on Amazon for a 30 amp portable and in it's first season of use, it saved our butts in 2 of the campgrounds in NY State Parks! One had very low voltage repeatedly and the other had over voltage periodically . The Progressive unit automatically shuts down your power when it can be too low or high and can cause damage as well as monitors and reacts to reverse grounds, open grounds, surges, etc!
GET ONE OF THESE NOW! It can save you thousands in repairs later.. And they have a lifetime warranty!

I went ahead and ordered one of these off of amazon.

Good move! You will thank me when it shuts down your power, tells you why with one of it's error codes, and then doesn't turn it on until problem is over...

Frank, are you sure about that? I've stayed in parks all up and down the coast, on the Columbia river, Redmond, Sisters, Bend, Coburg, Canyonville, Klamath Falls (and I'm sure a few others) and I've never been instructed to use a support. Currently, and every summer, we stay in Newport and again, no requirement here.:h

a definite "must have"!
you will get a flat tyre. get the stuff together to change it. the lug wrench and jack for the tow vehicle probably will NOT work.

my trailer requires two socket sizes, 13/16 for wheel nuts and 3/4 for the spare tyre holder. a 2 ft power bar(1/2 inch drive) and a short extension makes it easy. you may need a deep socket especially on the spare holder

I have dexter torsion axles and a bottle jack fits nicely under the swing arm next to the wheel and I only need to lift the wheel a 1/2 inch to change it but think about clearance when that tyre is flat

It is good advice on the Rhino sewer line.

Our dealer gave us two of the cheapo blue stinky slinkys. They do not wear well; but then again they are less than $10.00 each.

X2

I was shocked to see the sewer hose they included in my first RV purchase. And it was a pretty high end MH and I still got a cheap, thin, blue stinky slinky, that when I got to my very first CG it didn't even reach 1/2 way to the sewer hook up. :R

Never could understand why these RV manufacturer's can't at least supply a decent sewer hose with a new coach.

I know you said you bought a new sewer hose but did you buy the Rhino? IMHO the ONLY sewer hose to have on board! Makes a big difference on your dumping experiences! :B

Rhino Sewer Hose Kit contains all the connections you will need. As some are required at CG's. The hose is rigid and expands and contracts to what ever length you need and is 'real' easy to handle.

____

Sidewinder Support: This is the sewer support that if you are parked for a while you will be able to hook up from any height or angle and/or around trees. No more having to pick up the hose to get it to drain when ground is lower than sewer hook up.

I still have a few "Can't live without." items still in the box that I bought because folks said they were necessary.

The dealer included the WD hitch, the hitch setup, battery, sewer line and fresh water hose with the sale. "Just roll out the door direct to the campground." 🙂

We took our best guess at what we needed and added things as we went along.

Anything you can buy at Wal-Mart is just the next town away; so spend your time and money on tools and learning what you need to do to change a TT or TV tire and practice doing it.

Properly jacking up a TT can be daunting and is a lot easier with a Tire-Aid ramp if you have a dual axle. Twice for us it was the difference between an annoying 20 minute delay and waiting for road service to find us on the side of the road somewhere.

Enjoy your new TT.
