Need new mattress!!!

The MasterCraft coil spring mattress in my 2012 Jayco Jay Flight is by far the worst mattress I've ever slept on. Way worse than any of the foam beds in my Pop Ups or my Jayco's bunks.

I thought about going to a mattress that we use at home, but at 80" in length, it's just to long. The original's 75" length barely lets you squeeze your legs past to get to the door opening.

Thought about a Full size home mattress, 54" X 75" but it leaves large gaps that could pinch our hands in the night or even get a splinter from the plywood platform underneath.

I want to stay around $200 but no more than $250. Not sure I want another coil spring mattress for the camper as foam rv mattress have proven to be better, if not some what uncomfortable.

MY cheap MasterCraft mattress has no cushion cover on top so you feel every hard coil and they are even popping all over the place.

It's very bouncy. If you roll over, the mattress bounces you left to right, until you settle in the middle. I can't sleep at night on this mattress so I put "2" thick blankets on it, with each being doubled. While I can't feel the coils anymore, it's ultra stiff nature and bounciness are still there. No mattress topper is going to fix this mattress.

I've found a few mattress on Amazon for under $250 and they seem decent, high density foam.

What's everyone's experiences and opinions on the less expensive, more comfortable short queen mattresses????

I'm camping now by myself and think I may be sleeping on the kids bunks for their more comfortable foam mattresses.

Previously the mattress was bad from the purchase. But over the last few years, with very limited sleeping from only a few short trips a year, the mattress seems to have become unbearable. Perhaps my back, shoulders, and hips getting older or the springs just getting harder and more bouncy.

We bought this one off Amazon last year...DreamFoam Queen...and have been very happy with it. My wife comments frequently after waking up in the morning that it is a comfortable mattress.

Try Bedinabox.com I told Jayco to keep their mattress when I bought my last trailer and bought a 7" foam mattress from these guys... Love it!

We just got one from Overstock.com, an 11 inch memory foam. Its a RV queen short, its great. It was $399 with free shipment. Came all wrapped up and you put it where you want it and open it and presto you have a bed. We would buy another one for sure.

Got an 8" foam mattress from Wayfair for my first TT. It ran about $250. It was very comfortable, and would have continued to be comfortable if it was just me.

But, as DH is a big guy and he likes to sit in the side of the bed, it started rounding off on the side from his weight. (It took a few years, but the much more expensive house memory foam mattress is now doing it on his side of the bed as well - you feel like you are going to roll off of the bed.)

So, while I really like those mattresses for me, I didn't want one for the new TT if it would have that tendency to compress on the sides.

The new TT came with a more traditional mattress that was little better than the platform it sits on - really firm. So, I went with a $100 4" Serta gel foam mattress topper from Big Lots.

I was very skeptical, but it did well this season. So, I think keeping the stock RV mattress and getting a gel foam topper is a good place to start to be comfortable. The gel foam can be cut if it is bigger than the RV mattress - the options were twin, full, queen, or king.

We have had this Spa Sensastions Gel Memory Foam Mattress in our last two RV's. First, we had a TT with a wall at the bottom of the mattress and only 77" of room. It fit perfectly, but did make the mattress a little bit snug when we were putting sheets on it. Now in our 5'er, there is nothing at the end, so the mattress hangs over about 4" and it works fine.

We spend 100+ nights in our RV, so we must have a decent mattress and I ordered the mattress before we even took possession of our 5'er. It was waiting (in the box) for us to get the RV home.

We were lucky with ours, bought the trailer used and it has a real nice mattress in it with a pad on top and everything. I sleep like a baby on it...hope you find one you like.

I had one made to order in Phoenix for just over 200.00. A really nice pillow top made exactly the way I wanted it.

Thanks, never thought about that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks, I'll look into that as I don't want to spend a fortune in a bed I'll be lucky to get 20 nights a year in.

JMO but I wouldn't waste the $$$ on replacing the mattress if you're only willing to spend $250.

I'll consider that topper, looks nice and thick. Hope that topper isn't overpriced like a lot of things at Costco. Almost cancelled my membership as I can usually buy things cheaper at dedicated product stores.

We bought mattresses from Wal-Mart for all our beds and they are the most comfortable mattress I've been on and even the queens were under $200.

We bought a twin for our kids overnight friends and were impressed with how comfortable they were. So we replaced our other mattresses with them. Unfortunately they don't sell a short queen, 75" long.

Thanks for the tip.
