Need new mattress

Finally got a chance to take the 05 Lance out this last weekend for the first time since spring due to chasing wildfires most of the summer. DW and I agree that either the 8 year old mattress or we have gotten lumpier in the last few years and we hope that it is the mattress that needs replacing. It is the original Lance queen with about 4 inches of coil springs and about 2 inches of padding on top.
We want to be like Goldie Locks and find the mattress that is JUST RIGHT!
So, looking to the group to find out what others have done to upgrade the mattress in your TC. Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

How can people stand sleeping on a whole bed made of that stuff?

I tried the memory foam pillows too and also hate them. But I will never sleep again (if I can help it) without my 2" memory foam topper. I've been sleeping on memory foam toppers (toppers just lay on top of your existing standard mattress) for the past ten years and love them. Two inch, 4-pound density. Relatively inexpensive. I tried 3-inch once but found it to be too thick for me (for heavier folks it might be better - I weigh 165). Every night I crawl into bed I am thankful I have one.

I see a lot of you like the memory foam. I find it reflects too much of my body heat. We went with an aero bed in the camper. It can be adjusted for firmness & I find I don't wake up all stiff.

Thanks to all for the advice and comments - We purchased a 6" memory foam from Wally World, the Spa Sensations. Spent 17 nights on it and it has worked great! We are considering putting something like this in the house.

Thanks Again

Since no else has said it, an Aerobed works well, too, if you can sleep on an airbed. We never did a single night on the stock block o' foam - we're keeping it minty for if/ when we ever sell/ trade the TC..

Perfect timing. I just remove the two corner cabinets over the cab and replacing the stock queen bed with two twin. I will try this aerobed and amazon carries them and they are cheaper than the memory foam. If it doesn't work for us amazon has return policy.

Check out www.foambymail.com - they sell all types of foam. I needed a custom cut - so just got a piece of their 5" Lux foam, cut the shape I needed (use an electric knife - works very well). It is a bit firm - likely could have gotten by with 4", but still makes a really good mattress. Just put a fitted sheet on the BOTTOM, then a fitted mattress pad over the top - encases the foam itself. ST

Since no else has said it, an Aerobed works well, too, if you can sleep on an airbed. We never did a single night on the stock block o' foam - we're keeping it minty for if/ when we ever sell/ trade the TC.

An airbed puts a big chunk of air between your body and the cabover floor - this insulation keeps us warm in bed in an otherwise cold camper. It's a familiar/ comfortable sleeping arrangement for us. It's mostly air, so likely much lighter than memory foam (we have a Temperpedic in the house, it weighs a ton). You do need a shot of electricity to top it off from time to time. If we needed countertop, we could deflate it and flip it in half, giving us half the cabover.

We're Aerobed people, tho: we've had several, for several years, and taken them everywhere: visiting relatives, tent camping, drive-in movies/ camping in our Honda Element, etc.

We bought an Englander Viscopedic for our Northstar and it was very comfortable. Another plus with the foam mattress's is that you can bend and twist them to get them in the TC.

Ordered my mattress on Sunday night about 11 pm. It was delivered today at noon by Fedex. It's on the bed sucking up air. It is made up of gel something that is supposed to keep it from getting hot. I'm going to sleep o it tonight and if it works, DH and I may change mattresses. My TempurPedic is warmish and I definitely don't need anymore heat - I have plenty of my own!!!

This is what I purchased.

So how'd did it turn out? We are looking at getting one as well.

We went with this 6" memory foam mattress from an Amazon.com merchant.

We don't shop at places like Wal-Mart that refuse to pay their employees for all the hours they are made to work - not good karma.
