New Diesel PU

Well. I finally did it!
Stepped up an ordered a new F350 Crew 4x4 6.7 pickup.
Ordered because it has to be brought in from Idaho.
Bought it thru a local Ford dealer after doing a bunch of searching on the interwebs for one set up the way I wanted it. Got a good price but not great one.

Anyway never having owned or driven a diesel pickup before is there any thing I should do right away besides drive and enjoy? Any thing to be aware of?

We will be heading to SoCal and AZ in about 6 weeks with it and our TT for a few months.

What axle ratio are y'all getting on these new Fords? I am thinking of one to carry a 5,000 lb. slide in camper. Unsure which ratio to get.

If all youโ€™re doing is carrying a camper, Iโ€™d get the highest gear ratio offered. No need for low gears without a big trailer. Especially with 900 on tap!

3:55 on my 6.7. If it was the 6.2 I would have ordered the 4:30's

My '97 F350 with the 7.3 has 4:10 and they have been great with my 4k slide in. With the new trucks having so much more hp/torque I thought that I could pick up a few mpgs with different gears.

When I ordered my 2013 dually, I got the 3.73 gears. Pulls my 14k fiver great (been full timing since I got it). 60 mph is about 1600-1700 RPMs. Max torque is at about 1600 RPMs.

I went with the 4.10 in mine. Pulling a 16k fifth wheel, they are overkill, but I am glad I went with them.

Congrats!! I also just bought one but don't go pick it up for another week. Very happy with the deal and excited about the truck. The engine has such amazing specs, only thing crazier is the complexity of all the systems, how they are all wired together, and how everything is shoe horned between the front wheels.

Congrats. I received my 2017 F350 Dually a month ago, it's absolutely amazing. The worst part was the 10 week wait from order to delivery, but it was worth every minute of it. They are incredible trucks.

Pay attention to the break-in procedure for the rear end. You definitely want that gear set to mate up correctly.

Looks like I will get it Monday or Tuesday. Already planning to get some miles on in so I will be ready to go south in December.

Thanks again for the responses.

Enjoy the drive!
Be careful on wet pavement. It has ALOT of torque and the rear end can get away from you. Not a big, you'll get used to it easy enough. I put a turbo saver on mine. It automatically takes care of the turbo with no effort on my part. They're great.
Hope you like the new beast!
