New F350 and first trip

I must say I am so impressed with my new truck. Been using cruise control almost 90% of the time which I couldn't do with my old truck. Although the Tundra did an admirable job and I never had any issues while towing my trailer, I could very rarely use cruise control. Have traveled from Maryland to Mitchell, SD with a couple of short drives over the next 2 days getting to Custer.
Looking forward to our 5th wheel purchase next year and hopefully retirement and full-timing in 2018.

Nice review, thanks. That 6.7 sure is a great engine.

So we finally got to tow with the new truck. What a relaxing ride. Between the power on demand and the exhaust brake the hilly, twisty portion of the trip was a breeze. 105km per hour ( about 65 mph) up the hills in 5th gear at 1800 rpm. Quiet and smooth as could be and could definitely have gone faster.

Very impressed so far. Can't wait to get out again.

We too just returned from a 2500 +/- mile trip down to DC, Outer Banks, Asheville (Rtes, 81, 95, 40, 26, 81 and state routes) grossing just south of 22,000lbs. Exceeded my expectations going up/downhills. Going uphill, she would if I pushed it, actually pick UP speed! Going downhill, just tapped the brakes a time or 2 and engine brake kicked in and she held speed to whatever I wanted it at. Hills of western NC and eastern TN were not only beautiful, but gave a good indication of how she would do fully loaded and 5 people. Smiles? You bet!

Used cruise when I could at 70 mph, A/C on and pretty much ave 10 mpg. While in Asheville, drove back to Charlotte w/o 5er and mpg's shot up to 18-19.

Didn't used the hill descent button as the eng brake worked as designed. Wanted to scale out when fully loaded, but raining pretty good at truck stop, so it was 3 days later when I did. Yes some food was gone, but not enough IMO to make too much of a difference.

CAT scale said truck weighed in at 8600 and trl was 13,200. Pin of just over 2,100 and truck weight w/ 5er of a couple hundred pounds south of 11,500. Overall, within limits of truck. Majority of truck weight or about 400-500 pounds of it was fuel tanks (Transferflow replacement 50 gallon tank). Compared to my old 6.0 (which wasn't bad), this is a beast of a truck and very happy.

I used the cruise with my 2011 F450 all the time pulling the Cyclone. But I was worried about my new F350 with the 3.55 rear end. Even for our lighter Work & Play.

Not a problem at all. Its a much more relaxing drive towing the camper. I set it on around 66-67 mph and we just roll along. The 6.7 is one sweet motor.

On the interstate, I use cruise all the time when towing the TH. I have the 3.55 and 10k GVWR. I set it around 65 and the truck just chugs along at 1700 rpm. It rarely ever downshifts, gotta love gobs of torque.

Just wait until you travel farther west and actually drive at some elevation. This will be where the forced induction will impress you. Learn to use the exhaust braking on descents - I rarely need to use service brakes to decrease/control my speed on declinations.

I use the gear I ascended the grade to descend the grade with cruise control on, works great!

If it is a diesel, the smiles are standard equipment. Can't avoid them.
