new truck

Good morning from Denny and Ida, OK, I know this is going to open a can of worms !!! We are going to buy a new 2017 truck this year. My wee blond said she loves the 5th wheel so much that I can get my new truck. We have a 2015 outback and we now have a 2005 dodge ram 1500. I want to get a truck that will pull this with no problem. I wan`t to go with a diesel , 4 wheel drive, exhaust brake, but I want to stay with a single wheel drive. OK this will be my last truck so I want it to last a long time. what do you suggest ???? Thank you!!

I agree with the above about pending money and NEVER ask for information. I can figure what we need. I do feel some need information and for me I tell my thoughts but really not a brand.

Why not???? I am at a place in my life I can afford to do so. Most likely will be getting a 100 yr Anniversary 2019 CUMMINS.

I did serve my time, 300K on US Made VW PU, 300K on 86 C20 and 360K on 98 RAM.

I will let u know when this 15 is available.

He's in Iowa not Idaho. Slight difference.

Might be worth the flight/trip regardless. Dillon gives great deals.

HAAAAA, thanks for the correction. I like Idaho MUCH better!

I have a bias towards a Chevrolet or GMC. I can tell you that a 2017 Crew Cab Long Box Denali with the new diesel is awesome.

If you go try one of these, and decide this is your choice, I can share a friends discount. This makes the vehicle price a specific amount printed on the invoice, and then you are eligible for any current rebates. Just let me know.

Really not a bad choice these days. Gm, Ford, Ram, pick the one you like best.

I keep trucks for a long time...I feel. I am 37 and have had 4 trucks. F-250 gas @16, new F-350 7.3 in 03 totalled and bought an 01 F-350 7.3L in 08. At 350k on the Odo I sold it and bought a 3500 Ram dually in 15.

You see what I did? Blue oval man born and bred bought a Ram.

I would look to a 3500 to avoid running out of payload; DRW if you plan on getting into a larger unit with high pin weight in the future.

I plan on keeping my truck a long time also so long term ownership costs (including repairs) was a major consideration for me. I chose the Cummins because it is easier to work on than the V8 diesels due to it's simpler design. One other major consideration is that the Cummins still has the CP3 high pressure fuel pump which is much more reliable and not prone to very expensive and catastrophic failure like the CP4 pump is. Ford still uses the CP4 pump and although GM has switched to another pump for 2017 it will take some time to prove it's reliability.

I suggest trying all the Class 3's available at the dealers to find your best fit, then research the heck out of the available options for your most desirable model. I prefer to deal fleet/commercial sales rather than the consumer side since these guys typically know the trucks better and may even have exclusive fleet options available that cannot be found on the lot. If you don't find what you want on a dealer lot, don't be afraid to order the exact truck optioned how you like.

Says the guy who dumps his trucks before the warranty expires!

This one also has a medium duty drivetrain (in all truck configurations and not just a select few) as well, but better yet is built in the USA by an American company!
