The model as tested was a Longhorn edition...price out the F 150 Platinum or a GMC Denali if you want sticker shock...and for complete cardiovascular shutdown price them in Canada!!

Be nice! The italians who own Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge, and Ram etc are in deep trouble with their European economic problems and severe lack of Fiat sales and are needing to raise the price of the Ram 1500 by so much to offset their losses across the pond. Therefore, please dig a lot deeper into your pockets and help Ole Sergio out or the Fiat/Chrysler future may be in jepordy! All he's asking for is just a $10 to $15 thousand higher markup for each Ram 1500 truck because everyone knows that North Americans just have money running out of their ears and that's merely chump change to them!

Maybe Sergio will thank you for your generous contribution!

OR

Maybe he won't!

It is not $57K because of the diesel, but because for this test they put the diesel in a $54K truck. That's at least $30K of options over a base model, and you don't need to buy them if you don't want them.

I can put a lot into repairs on mine for that kind of money. They have way to much electronic fancy stuff on them for my taste.

May be a nice truck but way too much $ for a 1500. Wonder what the payload and pulling capacity is.

It's a Ram so the lowest of all trucks. Don't believe me, look it up. Their 1500's are the bottom in towing and payload across the board.

I paid under $42,000 in 2011 for a GM diesel 2500 extended cab pickup with mid-level trim and all the options packages except leather seats and navigation.

PT Barnum needs to be updated from a sucker being born every minute to a sucker is born every second. Small wonder that the auto makers make more money on a pickup truck than on any other vehicle they sell.

I do agree that 57+K is over the top. But just curious...what would you think is a realistic sticker price for a pretty well optioned out model?

Kinda hard for me to think anything more than $45K sticker for a gas 1500. So maybe $48K sticker price for the diesel model. So my thought is this is maybe 10K high. Out the door for $40K or so. But hey, when it comes to vehicle pricing, I have been accused of still living in the 90's.

Considering well optioned 3500 Diesels are in the $65 to $70K range, I suppose that had an affect on the 1500 pricing.

Doesn't an F-150 Ecoboost in Lariat or King Ranch trim run around 50K or more??

Any of 'em new is too rich for me. I'll catch one when I can get one in the "new to me" market.....:)

At that price I get a 1 ton diesel with only the options I need for about $40K and buy a commuter car for $17K. Best of both worlds.

And that is why I will never buy new!!! $60k for a new vehicle? That`s nuts! even $40k for a regular car is a bit much! I have less than $40k in my X and T&C minivan. and they are still very nice vehicles.

Get over the price. The diesel is a $2800 option over the Hemi. The Hemi is priced comparable to Ford's 5.0L and GM's 5.3L. You can buy a half ton Ram for $25k MSRP, or $60k, just like F-15- and GM twins. If you want a diesel 3/4 ton Ram with the same equipment, it'll be $8k higher MSRP. If you don't want to spend that much, don't. Don't buy new. Don't get so many options. But many people do and have.

FWIW, transaction prices on these are at least $10k lower than MSRP, just like competitors and 3/4-1 ton trucks.
