oil choice for diesel

I know this has probably been discused before,but what is the best oil for 2006 ram diesel filter choice? thank for any suggestions

My new to me 12 CTD has 5w40 in it and I like the way it cranks faster. I will use T6 or Valvoline PB Ext depending mostly on availability. Craig

My '03 5.9 Cummins HO was the first HPCR engine year. The oil stays honey color for the first 2500-3500 miles when new depending on how its was worked.
Now with over 325k miles it starts turning brown around 2000 miles and black at 3500 miles all depending on how hard its worked.
The '03 and up 5.9 HPCR 305/555 engines (non California) had a 7500/15000 oil change schedule. I use the 15k miles oil/filter change much of the time.

Your oil stays clear? I've never seen a Dodge Cummins that still has clear oil after about 5 minutes of running. You must have one-in-a-million.

My new to me 01 with 125k I just changed oil and have logged over 1,000 miles since and it's a nice brown color, NOT black. My 98 at 5k was dark brown NOT black. My 11 HO as soon as I started it and checked the next day was BLACK. My current 15 says brown to dark brown not black for thousands of miles.

Cummins12v98 also left off the 6 months max to change the oil part. It's 15k miles or 6 months whichever comes first. For most folks they time out before the mileage.

Thanks for mentioning that! Precisely WHY I do the oil analysis EVERY change while under warranty. Many other reasons but that is one.

I'm old school and run Rotella Dino oil and Baldwin filters all around. Change it every 5,000 regardless of time run.

Blackstone said "Longer oil changes are certainly possible, but no pressure to run longer if you don't want to. The current maintenance schedule is clearly working well!!".

The owner's manual and service manual recommend 3500 miles interval with severe use. Since I basically don't use the truck except to pull the 15,000 lb. toyhauler, I consider that severe use. However I stretch it a bit by going 5,000 miles instead.

Probably would be fine, but I would be uncomfortable going 10,000 miles instead. Just me.

When I had my 12V they said I should run 13k after sampling my 10k oil. It was AMZ/OIL Diesel Marine NON le oil with fleetGuard Stratapore. I just stuck to 10k since it was easy to remember.

Well, you have to figure the numbers will improve as the engine breaks in so I wouldn't worry about them too much.

This was on my lab report from Blackstone:

"While it's impossible for there to be absolutely no bearing wear in 4,599 miles, it is possible for it to be so low that we can't measure it, and that's what we've got here."

Cummins and I have the same report but I use Rotella synthetic T 6 and 99000 miles so good oil is good oil maybe.
