We decided to keep but replace .. Old Blue

(Near Red Lodge, MT last year)

... with "new RED" . There were concerns about reliability for extended travel.. After 330K of travel.. Here is new 2018 RAM Laramie Crew 4x4 with 2018 Host Cascade finally mated. Only lower stable loads and sway bar.

Finally got them for a short shake down trip after getting a replacement camper remote.

On shake down at Alexander Springs Recreation Area

What a difference in the two trucks! Love that Tow/Haul and Exhaust Braking !

Cheers!

Now what is with tow mode on Dodge?
My Ford pulls 7,000 lb cargo trailer on overdrive even on those 20 miles grades.

Tow/Haul Mode

Tow/Haul : Its a selection button that controls shifting of the Aisen Transmission when heavy loaded. Truck also has button with two modes for exhaust brake. One is called automatic, apparently engages to help with braking after the brake is tapped. The other is Full Exhaust. In combination with Tow/Haul with the TC loaded, it really reduces braking and seems to optimize transmission handling of the load. It is really awesome. You all probably have experienced this before , but I had not.

I had an aftermarket manual exhaust brake on my 06 and with my manual transmission I, of course, always manually controlled i.e. downshifted when camper was loaded... This computer controlled downshift and exhaust brake keeps me from missing a manual transmission. (I still have a 98 Dodge 2500 and "Old Blue" 06 Dodge 3500 with manual transmissions.

Absolutely love the tow haul mode and full and auto exhaust brake on these rams. Use it all the time hauling the TC or my 42 foot FW!

You will love your new truck.

Tow/Haul in combination with the exhaust brake makes mountain passes childs play. Set the cruise and forget it. Rarely does the foot brake need to be applied even on steep descents. Unlike previous work trucks I have had driven the tow/haul doesn't lock out overdrive. That can be done manually but these trucks have so much power that overdrive is where it will spend pretty much all it's highway miles, even mild grades.

Hey OP, Nice rig and congrats. I read somewhere maybe on here, TCM or LOa that the new dodge duallys come with a sticker that says don't use for a truck camper. I didn't and don't believe it. I'm curious... Does it have the sticker?
Thanks, Joe

Nope. Much higher payload and better handling/less mods required than 06. The owners manual has some provisions for tailgate removal for addition of a truck camper.
