Pass thru window leaking!

On recent trips, the first involving rain and the second involving snow, found the carpet below the pass-thru-window wet. After the second trip on snowy roads with lots of swirling wet snow, water and salt - specially when semi's passed with their own snow storm in tow I found the same wet carpet but with the dirty salt water trail from the window. It was in the window tracks and matched the camper exterior which was covered top to bottom with the dirty salt water road crud residue! Not sure if a seal is missing……seems there should be a seal since there are gaps (can see daylight and obvious water path) at the top and bottom of the trim between the inner and outer window panes.

The camper is a new Wolf Creek 850 and my question is as to whether or not their should be a squeegee type seal between the window panes? Will be calling the dealer again but wanted to see what other Northwood's Mfg. (and other) TC owners have to say about their TC's pass thru window configuration. It'd be nice to just get a new seal shipped and popped in place and not have to make a third long trip to the dealer!

Fortunately we haven't had any leaks in our AF1150. I wouldn't replace the pass through window with one that wouldn't open. Even ignoring getting things to and from the truck we find the pass through window very valuable as it is the one window you can leave open and not worry about rain or someone entering through. Combined with the overhead vents, we have vent covers, it allows for excellent and safe air circulation.

Did I miss a memo?

When did the pass through window go from "indispensable" to "not needed?"

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

I'm also considering a strip to a "weather stripping" store to see if I can't solve it myself.

I would never let someone (even an experience RV dealer) rip into the truck camper bulk-head wall to replace that window. Especially on a brand new camper!

We have basically the same window (installed in our Outfitter bulkhead wall) however, it is considerably larger than yours (much wider).

We've rarely had water infiltrate in; only once did that happen, in torrential rains in Wisconsin, and while we stored it outside (for the 1st time this winter).

Indeed, I went to the building supply store, and bought temporary winter sealant *for windows* (clear caulking). I sealed up all the weep holes in that bulkhead window, and the split center. Now NO snow blowing in there at all for the past 3 months (we have a snowstorm roughly every 3~5 days here, with winds blowing at 50 to 60 MPH {the snow blows sideways for up to dozens of feet}, blasting the bulkhead window).

This clear weather seal caulking just peels right off in seconds when/if you need to. So, if this were me in your situation, I would try using this stuff to seal up the weep holes along bottom/top of the bulkhead window, and also apply it along inside around perimeter of window tracking-- where needed.

Carry a tube along on your travels.

Dealer offered to replace the window with either a slider like is in it or a solid window. I like the Northwood Slider as it has a screen and that is usually were I open the vent to move air in when raining and using the fantastic fan.

Any thoughts? anuami - I don't know if this solid window is a lance window or not I need to ask about it.

So far I haven't had any issues with my window and personally I love it! I would only get rid of it if it was a last resort since I also use it for ventilation when the bathroom hatch is open.

I'm sure it well be just a fixed pane window. That is what my Northern Lite has and there is no leaking.

I would like to have a slider for ventilation but I wouldn't want the leaking.

To some of the folks that think the window is a waste and it might be in their camper but I can actually look in my center rearview mirror and can see all the way out the back door and see what is behind me when I can't see it in my side mirrors. Some people in small cars like to get right up on my bumper and then I can't see them but with the center mirror I can. I know in the past with my AF1140 I was unable to see out of it as the slide was in the way.

Explorer: Sorry to hear about your leaking pass-thru window. Leaks are pain no matter where they occur, that's for sure.

We're now on our 2nd truck camper, across a 13-year period and have used the foam boot on both. So far, haven't had even a hint of a leak. It would seem the boot pretty much eliminates the risk.

OK so the dealer finally responded with the option to replace the window with a choice of two styles: another slider window or a solid window!!! Not sure what I want to do since I really really like to be able to open that vent!!!!

Any additional opinions? I'm also considering a strip to a "weather stripping" store to see if I can't solve it myself.

Thoughts anyone?

Are you able to install the pass through window Lance uses? It is a solid window that can be fully removed. Not sure if the dimensions are the same though.

I'll be talking to the dealer Monday to get details on each style window….and may still make a TRIP to the hardware store depending on their response. They are paying….so if it is the lance window and can be removed and has a screen I may choose it.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Our pass through window leaked when driving in heavy rain.... even after filling the weaping holes it still leaked and trying vents open or closed. Our solution was a new window with no slider....has worked great since. A new non-sliding window was like $75. Driving is rain is like a pressure washer aimed at the sliding window seals. Was just too much pressure for the window track seal.

And Oregon we can have some pretty good rain.

And you can see we have an AF 1150. The solid window is nice!

OK, finally got the photos loaded correctly and got rid of the LARGE PDF. I was determined to get these loaded as it had been a while since I said as much. The dealer has also received these since he is a ways away and had forgotten about them. Dealer to talk with Mfg. we'll see what they say!!! Will update when I know more or try the vent trick during the Great Thaw of 2014!!!!
