Potable Water connection bigger than Hose

So, I buy a 2006 Wildwood LE (Forest River) and get it in place. I go to put some potable water in the tank and the connection is too big for the potable water hose (from Wal-Mart)?!? I tried pouring water in, but some or a lot of it flows right back out.

How do I get water into my potable water tank?? What kind of connection is there? Is there a special funnel or what?

( I suspect I am just missing something... )

First I am guessing he previous owners did not leave the tank full. Next I would look at the gravity fill hose to be sure there are no kinks in it that would stop the flow of water. I generally only put water in the tank to sanitize the system at the beginning of the year. I just stick a hose in and turn it on part way. Good luck.

I use a 7 gallon aquatainer with a 14" hose clamped to it, lid with removed valve and male hose bib. Lift onto 3 step stool and tilt towards potable fill. Often we are not within a water connection at a park.

some people, like me only use the fresh water tank...even when there is water on the site. If there is a leak in the system, the pump will cycle on and off and you can catch it before it ruins your camper.

Agreed.

Also, Then I don't have to carry a pressure regulator or any thing like that

If the camp site I'm going to has a fresh water hook up then I just drive there with my tank empty then fill it from the fresh hook up.

I only go camping in my local area so I know the quality of the water supply.

My question is, are you dry camping so you need to fill the water tank? If not and you are in a campground with water connections, you should use the city water connection on your trailer.

be sure to glue the tubing onto the fitting cause it will fall off and down the pipe.

Or add a hose clamp.

Just an FYI - I just set the garden hose in the opening and turn it on. There is a smaller VENT line inside that same opening and if that is plugged then you won't get water to go IN as the air will be pushing it back out. Given the age of the trailer, you might want to check that vent line and make sure it isn't plugged up or you will always have burping issues when filling.

Ours is a 2010 and had to clean out the vent once already, now I usually give the VENT a shot of water as I'm filling the tank.. My theory is that if the air is trying to push stuff OUT then hitting it with the hose should push that same stuff IN and free it up to breathe.

I had a plugged up vent once too.

I can fill mine with a standard garden hose but, not at full flow.

X2
and the plastic hose will not come off and fall off into tank, and the other end at the threaded hose fitting is to big to fall past the water fill opening, so no worry's. That is what works best for me.

Almost forgot... but then again you could die a painful death by using anything other than a "food grade" hose, so be careful if you have any food police around. :B

This is the answer, it fits in the opening and the water goes in without burping and with the attached valve you can open it slowly and increase the flow as needed. Get one, you won't be sorry

I've found if i just stick the end of the hose in there, and trickle the water in it works fine (but slow). If I fill much faster I get water shooting out the vent after a bit.
