Power converter (smoked/fried)

My son just upgraded from a popup to a TT, that being a 2005 Salem T23 (with 2 slides), extremely clean inside and out. Yesterday we were checking out and power washing the EPDM roof. Looks like we got some water inside the trailer when washing the "side" of the TT off and it fried the converter (I assume that's what it's called). He's never even used the trailer yet, camping wise and everything worked fine before. Yes, we had it hooked up to a 110v receptacle.

My question is, what do we do next replacement wise. I am handy with tools and would rather fix this myself. I have no idea what to purchase to begin with, and/or if we should be looking for a "upgraded" replacement.

Never could get a hold of Best Converter. I just drilled out the rivets for the top. Yes, It's a 55amp Parallax Power Components converter.

Parallax 7355, if anyone is interested. Discontinued so needs replacement with something different. I'd recommend the Progressive Dynamics converters since I have one that still operates well after 40+ years.

This should be what you want. You will need the model number of your unit for Best converter.

Thanks for the suggestions, it's appreciated. My son is going to give Randy a call at Best Converter. BTW, I should mention we have no idea "how" the water entered the trailer for sure. It could of been the vent pipe since we were going to replace the roof jack after cleaning the roof. There were few cracks in the Dicor on the old one. Maybe once I pull the converter there will be a clue. I also don't know what the wire gauge size is until I physically measure the wire since there are no markings on the insulation.

I recommend:



35 amp is typically fine. 45 amp is for 2 or more batteries. 55 amp I recommend upgrading the battery feed and grounds to #6 or #4 wire.

Fairly easy self install. Huge improvement over the oem converter.

Hybrid Inverter/charger with temperature probe on the battery bank.

Best:

temperature compensated converter with probe on battery bank

Better:

three stage converter with "boost" mode

Acceptable:

single stage converter preset at 13.6 volts.

make sure you buy the smart charger upgrade from best converter.
also sometimes the fridge is on a ground fault receptacle. you change out everything and no power.

in the end it was a good thing, there not hard to change and you needed a up grade any ways.

That's pretty wild that water could get in there. They're usually pretty protected from water. I've always found that pressure washing an RV is a bad idea anyway. RV's aren't made like cars and the high pressure water does a good job of removing and getting behind the various sealants used on an RV. Not to mention infiltration thru windows and other vents. Looks like some water may have found it's way in thru the power cord opening.

Big question is how was the converter exposed to water. They aren't normally where water can get at them. Also you should be able to use an Iota or Progressive Dynamics as a replacement. Good excuse to up grade.

Your second photo almost shows make and model. I would call Best converter and get a replacement lower section. Best converter
