Ram 2500 cruise quit working

About 80 miles into my second tow with the 2017 Ram 2500, cruise control quit working. I'll turn it on, display says CRUISE CONTROL READY and then when I hit the set button, the transmission downshifts / rpms spike and then CRUISE CONTROL OFF

After this happened, I'm also getting random chimes, just one chime, no interval, the first one happened about 20 min after the CC quit, then a few more over the next 90 minutes.

No messages on the dash display, no idiot lights lit up.

All temperatures within normal range

Of course, it's friday and the closest ram dealer is a ways away.

Any ideas?

So many useful folks on this site.
Can you please explain the point (or better yet) the purpose or usefulness of this post?

Dealer didn't find any codes. Cruise didn't act up on my return drive Sunday. Hopefully a rare occurrence.

Brake pedal switch? They're set pretty close for liability reasons. When safe to do so, hook your left foot behind the brake pedal just enough to lightly lift up on it. If cruise works ok, that might be the problem. Although it sounds like something else might be going on.

Its going in Monday to have OEM remote start installed and DRL programmed. What's a few more things for the list.

Thanks for the feedback all.

There have been issues with the cruise control buttons. My EcoD has an issue. When it dings, I bet there is a code that isn't giving you a CEL. My code is something to do with "Cruise Control A/B out of correlation."

And so it begins. It's a Ram, get used to it. Yes, I have one too, I speak from experience.

Shut it down and restart. I had this problem on one occasion and it never happened again.
