Ram Cummins Vs GM Duramax Ike Gauntlet

VIDEO

My summary:
- they both can tow 12.5k lbs anywhere, even in the toughest conditions, with ease.
- the Duramax exhaust brake works too good?
- the GM's hitch is heavily reinforced and you may need to rig up something for the safety chains to easily attach if you bumper tow.
- buy the one you like from a dealer you trust will look after you if there are ever any problems.

When the trucks didn't make big power I found these tests interesting. I still didn't buy the winning truck. I no longer even find these tests entertaining......I never watched the video but it is quite obvious from your comments that test was useless. I suppose if they conducted an acurate towing fuel economy test where they started with a clean dpf and ended with a clean dpf it might be interesting. Maybe the towing up a hill is of value to guys towing 28000 lbs but my guess is that the slowest truck on one hill could be the fastest on another. So again the uphill tow test is pretty much useless.

How about choosing a gear like 3rd or 4th and set the cruise to the speed you want to hold. Works GREAT!

I have tried the AUTO mode, the above works MUCH better! Maybe it has to do with me towing 6% or steeper grades with a combined 33-35K.

Well here lies the problem. THEY DON'T MANUALLY SHIFT THE TRUCKS IN THESE TESTS!!!!

I am not saying that regular mode does not work the best, and it does work the best if you manually shift it. However, if they want the truck to do all the work(like they do in these tests) then auto mode is the mode they need to be in.

This is true going uphill, BUT downhill they DID.

Using the Lie O Meter is a joke.

I think every Cummins owner here needs to write these guys an email telling that they need to use the exhaust brake in auto mode(green icon) if they are going to let the truck do all the work and in regular mode(yellow icon) if they are going to manually shift.

Why would anyone leave the exhaust brake on long enough to slow the combo way below the speed they want to travel at ob down grades. Maybe I missed somethin'.
Anyways good for GM and a EB that works like it should.
