I have found a 3500 Tradesman with the 6.4 and fifth wheel prep for 38k. Very nice looking truck.

If only someone could tell us how it was towing 8-12K...

Interesting, I got my 12 2500 CC LB ST CTD for $36,000 and change in July 12.

Because you need at least 8 gears in a gas motor to do anything now days. Normal people don't want to be shifting all the gears now. It makes it harder to text while driving........

I think all the gears are for emissions and fuel economy, not really performance. Since gas engines have a much broader operating rpm range you could get away with fewer gears, at the expense of economy. The big diesel rigs have lots of gears because those big motors have narrow operating ranges- about 1200-2000 rpm.

That has changed in more recent models. Big trucks are using less gears! Days of running a 8V71 been 18-1900 and 2200 RPMs with a 13 speed are gone.

The Volvo torque curve. Youโ€™ll feel it in the pedal. Excellent torque at low revs. An extremely wide max torque range. Peak torque overlaps peak power in the mid rev range. Volvoโ€™s leadership in diesel-engine technology is clearly visible once you start comparing engine curves. Youโ€™ll experience fast acceleration, excellent pulling power, comfortable low-speed handling and, last but not least, a fuel-efficient and pleasurable ride at cruising speed. - See more at: http://www.volvotrucks.com/trucks/uk-market/en-gb/trucks/volvo-fh-series/key-features/Pages/volvo-di...
