replace truck with.......?

I'm trying to trade my 5th wheel & Chevy 3500, for a class A, but doesn't look like it's going to happen. Can't find the bells and whistles to keep "her" happy, at a price point that keeps me happy.

Plan B - replace the truck. That's the biggest problem she has, she doesn't trust a 12 year old truck enough to allow me to travel where I want to go, out west, up into mountains etc.

So what do I get as a replacement? I want gas this time. I know I need a duelly. Trailer comes in at 15,000lb's travel weight.

For two years now he has been worn out after making little 2.5 hrs trips with it and says it screams the whole time. His camper and boat together that he tows tandem weighs 15-16k.
I promise you will regret it just like he does. He has gotten to the point he don't camp with us nearly as much because of having to get there and come home. He really and truly hates it. We are like good buds and rag on each about everything but I don't dare ride him about this truck because he knows now how bad he messed up. 15K running down the highway is diesel only territory. Like I told him before he bought it , the hp to do the job is there but you will be 3500 - 4500 rpm 90% of the time. Your choice, make a good one. BTW, your wife will hate it too.

That's a great idea. Next time my very sweet MIL and her fool of a new husband go out of town I'm going to swap a 5.4 into their class A. Every time we go camping he wants to come along. A few hills with that setup will break him quick. ๐Ÿ™‚

Go test drive you a brand new one and report back. Lol

I never go near a new chev at the dealership. I am not stupid. Just no need for a new truck. PS I can buy any truck we want if needed. I have looked at rv,rs new trucks with out any interest. Our towing days are closing in unless the wife makes a big turn around.

I'm with KD4UPL!! If you already have an '06 LBZ Duramax, you own one of the best pickups ever made!
No disrespect intended but your wife does not know trucks if all she's going on is that its not a new one.
If you do sell it, go for top dollar, that's one of the most sought-after diesel pickups in existence, to those who know their trucks. It's got a great transmission, the best injection setup, and the least emissions junk.

I think you'd be crazy to sell it and get a new gas truck. I'd sooner rebuild the motor and trans and keep it as long as I could.
People look for '06 LBZ Duramaxes.

A 12 year old truck, particularly a diesel, is far from being worn out. You must have an '06 Duramax? That is a very sought after, valuable truck. Most people that own one of those wouldn't get rid of it for any reason. Lots of power, 6 speed Allison, no emissions, basically no chronic problems of any kind.
My own Chevy is an '05 with 227,000 miles on it. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.
If you really want gas I'd look at the RAM 6.4 Hemi. Not that the GM 6.0 is bad but the 6.4 makes more power and, having driven both, it feels like it has more power, probably due to GM's excessive torque management software.
I'm just not a fan of Fords, everyone I've ever been associated with has been full of problems, most of them very expensive.
