Hi,

I have a 2009 Keystone Laredo 272 RL. My A/C has is not cooling well and I've been told it should be replaced. I was hoping to purchase the new unit and install it myself with some help. I believe I have to purchase a Coleman Mach 13500 btu ducted unit and was hoping someone could confirm this.

My brother has a Coleman Mach on his 5th wheel. I do not recommend it. It is poorly designed and does not work well. Any air conditioner will fit in the same space. They are all fairly easy to install. I suggest you do some research and find one that will work for you the best.

All I had to do for wiring was unplug the old unit and plug the new one in. Both old and new used units had the same plug.

Un-installing old one and installing the new one is a breeze, if
you can use an idea presented above to get the old one down and
new one up.

I just installed mine Saturday. I used a scaffold at work. It took me longer to set up the scaffold and put down some roof protection than it did to do the job. I put some blankets on the roof and a couple pieces of plywood I had. A co-worker came by to help me with the lifting.

Check your model number on the old unit and cross reference to make sure you get the right one. You can buy the roof unit alone or both the roof and ceiling unit together.

I found a deal locally on a Dometic unit, but couldn't use it. My unit has the controls in the ceiling unit, some brands use a thermostat that is wall mounted. It wasn't worth modifing to change brands.

I replaced one using an extension ladder at about a 45 degree angle on the side of the trailer and a rope, pulled it up the ladder rails to the roof box and all.

Hi,

I put a canvas tarp on the roof and that prevented any holes into the roofing material. You can use cardboard - even the box it comes in. A pickup next to the RV can mean that you only need to lift it from 5' off the ground to the 11' tall roof, so it can make it easier. I had a ladder rack on my pickup with a extension ladder on it, that was nearly 6' off the ground, so it was really easy.

Most air conditioners are the standard size, for 14" square openers. You do not have to stay with the same brand or BTU capacity.

I would stick with a ducted unit, they are so much more quiet.

I replaced one on a motorhome. Wrapped it in a blanket and strapped it all around with one guy on the roof pulling it up and one below guiding it so it didn't bang the side.Was easy to replace.

It depends on which Coleman Mach you have now. I upgraded to a Coleman Mach 15,000 last year and it fit my exiting hole and inside cover. I would have done it myself, but I had no way of getting the new unit on top of the trailer. You'll need some really tall guys ;), or a forklift to do it yourself. If you can get it up there, it's an easy job.
