Running A/C while driving

Wondering if anyone runs their A/C while driving to the campsite? It gets pretty darn hot around here and would like a cool trailer when I get there. I would also like to leave my pet back there as he has more running around room

My genny sits in the back of the truck. The power inlet is at the back of the trailer The standard cord will not reach and even if it did I would have to find some way to tie it along the side the TT. I am thinking about installing another AC inlet at the front of the trailer and then I could run the power cord over the tailgate and to the trailer.

Any thoughts on this? Good? Bad?

I don't really see any problem with it as long as the generator is securely fastened to the truck and the wiring is secure as well.

As for the dog, hunting dogs travel long distances in the back of a pickup bed all of the time. Even down some serious 4x4 roads. Usually they are in a kennel, so I don't see why it would be a problem to put the dog in the TT inside a kennel. If you are one of the growing # of Americans who treat their animals like they are small humans then maybe not, but if you have trained the dog to be a dog they will be fine.

You are way overthinking this. Just follow this guy's example.

Father in law in the trailer while moving? Absolutely. Dog? Not a chance for us, no way. I know our dog would have nothing to do with us ever again if we tried that....

*Might* be okay for some dogs, but some may experience mild to extreme stress. Some TTs bounce and move around more than others. You could enter your TT afterwards to find the screen door or other things ruined or "waste" material on the floor. I know I would sure not want to be in a TT while moving. Imagine how a dog might feel. If you must, I would use a crate and secure it in place and I would put it as far forward as possible inside the TT to reduce the sensation of movement. If in doubt, ask your vet or Cesar Milan.

Is it because there's no room in the TV or the dog does not behave well in the TV? If the latter, maybe some time with a professional dog trainer is needed?

A few threads I found on the topic:

Just curious if this would cause an issue with the battery receiving tailgate power and also power from inverter for 120v? Never really thought about running the A/C while moving.

And, I have had people ride in there. Was it a good idea, HECK NO. Was it legal? In MN, probably yes. And, because they were drunk, and insisted on having a open bottle of alcohol with them I told them ride in the TT or walk. So they rode in the TT. After that day if they wanted to go camping they got their own ride to the park because I refused to take them.

I don't think my dog would like it. That being said, I don't know why you couldn't do it. Sometimes my dog gets excited when we get close to the park and the distraction of having a dog whining/jumping around in the pickup is probably more unsafe them having him ride in the TT.

And then there is the guy I used to work with who decided to carry an adult billy coat in the cab with him and his daughter. Every time I think about the story I laugh so hard tears run down my leg. This was the same guy that used his shot gun to shoot the wood pecker that was tearing up his eaves.

to the op, yes its very easy to do providing you have the proper set up to run the ac. Ive done the same thing with my fifth wheel. Just wish I could convince mother-in-law to ride in the 5er!!

I see dogs all the time riding in the back of a pick-up either just standing or laying down or sitting on the load. Why is that any different. You cannot compare a 4 legged critter with a human. Their stance is much more stable.

We stop an hour or so before getting to our destination and fire up the AC in our TT, but it is a toyhauler and genny is factory installed. I wouldn't put my dog(s) in our TT while traveling, but I'm sure some do, that will be your call. I imagine your scenario is doable if genny is securely mounted in back of truck bed and proper wiring is installed to power your rig's AC unit, I'm sure some have done this very thing in the past. Good luck and happy camping!!!

Have you ever ridden in a trailer? Very hard to get around without holding on to something. Sorta like trying to walk around in an airliner in a little turbulence.Your pet will not thank you and you might find yourself with a vet bill.
If the gennie is properly secured, there probably would be no problem there. As in being as close to a permanent installation as possible.
But I am perplexed as to your original purpose. When we go camping, it's not to sit in a cool trailer, but to be outside. So, I really don't understand.
