Safty chains

We Currently have a 2015 22ft Premier trailer. I pull with a 2015 Duramax High Country.
The hooks on the safety chains do not fit the locations on the hitch. The angle / diameter of the holes prevents the chain hooks from fitting.
I've had to purchase 2 12" wire straps with D-rings to connect the chains to the hitch.
Does anyone else have this issue? Is this a design change for 2015. I didnt have this issue with my 2011 Silverado.
Thanks

??

I can't think of a more proper tow vehicle than a full size truck, even for a somewhat small TT like the OP has.

I have to hook mine in from the sides of the receiver eyes. The hooks almost don't fit.

I have the same issue. When from a 1500 to a 2500 and the loop for the chain to hook up to is different. Put the trailer away for winter so will address in the spring. Tried the closable links but they are not big enough to span the holes in the TV hitch. May have to buy larger hooks from TSC to resolve.....

Since each safety chain is supposed to have a breaking strength equal or greater than the GVWR of the trailer, I would recommend whatever you add have a "working spec" of at least 1/2 of that number or even better equal to the GVWR of the trailer. That was the "weak link" of this system is what the OEM chains were.

Just grind off about 1/8" or a shade more off the tip part of the chain hooks that you push in with your thumb to get them off. Mine would not fit either till I did that ...Real easy fix.

I had the same issues with my 2011 F-150. The dealer installed one of those large links through each of the hitch chain connection holes.

They work just fine.

Sorry about the Chevy problem. Best burn it to the ground and buy a Cummins. In al reality my jeep dosent fit the chains on my boat. D shackles fixed the issue.

Same with my 2016.

I put eye bolts in holes that are underneath the bracket.

I had the same issue with a work truck and utility trailer. I went to Lowe's and got (2) a 3/8" Heavy Duty Chain Link; 2,200 lb capacity each. Slipped it into the holes on the hitch frame and tightened. The trailer safety chain hooks snapped right in.
