sand in our jacks

We're still having an issue with our front jacks making a horrible grinding. DH took them apart (thank you KKELLER) and lubricated them. He found a ton of sand in the leg.

We don't even camp in very much sand at all. It must splash in there during a rain storm. Does anyone have this issue too? Should we make it a habit to wipe them down before raising or lowering them? Does he have to disassemble them to clean them out?

Any advice would be appreciated. I forgot to mention that they are Happi-jacs.

The motor bearings are shot, easy fix if your DH is handy.
