Should I Even Try?

I have made a deal and ordered a 2015 GMC 3500 dually. I am trading in my 2012 3500 srw and am getting what I consider a fair price. I have been thinking that as it gets closer to getting the new one, which may be a couple of months, I may try to sell it myself and maybe do a little better. The caveat here is the truck is a 2wd. Is there a enough of a market for 2wd's to even mess with it?

I have done business with the GMC dealer for many years. No paperwork
is needed, just a verbal agreement that I will buy the truck along with the spec sheet on the new one showing its price and my trade in value.

In Oklahoma the taxes are paid on the vehicle by the buyer. If I sell it the state has a one time excise tax based on the value of the vehicle, or purchase price, whichever is greater. It does not matter that I already paid the tax on it when it was new, it starts all over for the new owner. Then I get to pay the tax on the new one. No such thing as giving us a credit for the value of the one that has already been taxed if I trade it.

The last time I tried to sell a vehicle was about 5 years ago and dealing with the scammers and tire kickers was not fun but part of it, I guess.

.....Have you made a signed deal, a contract with the dealer? Is it stated on the paperwork that your vehicle will be traded in on the new one? If so, the dealer may hold you to the signed contract. I would hate to do something without getting all the legal facts

if you trade it in you pay on the difference. if you sell it yourself you pay tax on the entire cost.
you save 5% or whatever on the trade in value. put it on Craig's list and if it sells it sells, if not trade it in. when I ordered my Chieftain I got the trade in value in the contract with a provision that I could sell it myself prior to getting the ordered one in. put the old one on consignment and sold it about a day before my new one came in.

I was going to say, see if your dealer would allow you to find a buyer and then have the buyer purchase the truck from them for the agreed-upon price and allow you that much for trade-in. Would indeed save you sales taxes on that cash difference. I had one dealer in the last city I lived in agree to do that, but we didn't in the end, for whatever reason.

I bought a truck up here in BC using a flow through at the dealer. What happened was I was the buyer, and the owner had purchased a new truck from the dealer.

It was deemed as a trade in, they charged just a tiny bit to me to do the paperwork, and the taxes on the new truck were reduced because it was indeed traded in.

You might ask at the dealer how it might work for you to do that.

There's always a market for 2WD, especially in that part of the country.
