Side patio

Hello all. I've tried searching the forums but I'm not finding what I'm looking for. Other than the Coachmen Catalina Legacy Edition 303RKP, are ther any TT's out there with side patios? If not, are there any suggestiins for TT's with good outdoor entertainment space? Wife and I are first time buyers and we appreciate any help we can get!

Since the topic has drifted away from locating models with side patios and into why would someone want a side patio.

I can imagine two reasons right off the bat. The are people who might have limited mobility and find the stairs to be challenging. Maybe there is a wheelchair bound child, spouse, or elderly parent who likes to camp. Mom can roll her wheelchair or her walker out onto the patio and enjoy the outdoors.

A second reason might be someone who regularly camps on the beach or in the desert for the view but doesn't like the tracked in sand. I camp in the desert almost exclusively and I do not need a toyhauler. So the option of converting the ramp into a patio is not available.

So while I personally do not need a side patio; I can imagine where someone, especially a new RV buyer, could think a one was a good idea. But the fact that not many manufacturers offer the option speaks volumes to the usefulness of such a an option.

Our camper has a TV mount outside on the wall identical to the one inside, so you can just move the TV. Never used it, though.

ya we almost bought it, but decided on a 5th wheel instead. the best part was that you didn't have to put the patio out, if you had the room you could if you didn't leave it folded. there are a couple nice lake side spots I go to which this would have been perfect for.

That's good. I don't think I've seen that on a TT before. But now that you mention that I do remember a company offering a patio that attached under the trailer and slid out and was set up. Don't know who it was but was a nice idea provided you had enough CCC for it.

You`ll only get the outside patio in a Toy hauler 5th wheel. So I would say you are out of luck for a TT with a patio. We have an outdoor matt. you just need to make sure that you get one that is breathable. some people buy indoor/outdoor carpet which will kill grass in a day in direct sun.

With that said, I like the side patio on the 5th wheels. sometimes you get a site that's all dirt/gravel. this would be a welcome addition to that.

Many trailers have a TV mount in a storage area. You can bring out the bedroom TV and mount in the holder. Other have a TV mounted in the outside kitchen area. Just put it on your must have list when shopping.

Thank you for the responses. We appreciate some of the thoughts and the more we think about it the patio may not be the way to go. We're thinking the mat idea might a better choice. We like the idea of not being tied to the inside of the camper when relaxing in good weather. I'm assuming there's some way that we'd still be able to watch tv outside on nice days?

Like some other nice folks pointed out, it could possibly be a bad idea in certain circumstances and, since the OP is new to RVs, they may not know about them.
I also like to know what others think about our hobby and a forum is a perfect place to hear those ideas.

Since you are first time buyers, I won't tell you not to buy what you want. I will say that depending on how you intend to use your new camper, a side patio may not be the best choice. If you are putting the trailer on a permanent lot that you know you have room for the patio, it may be a great choice for you.
If you are planning to travel to different campgrounds, it may be a horrible choice. Several things could keep you from putting out your side patio at different sites. Trees are not always in the best location. Fire pits seem like they are never far enough from the parking pad. And some campgrounds actually stake down their picnic tables.

Think it through and maybe take a drive through some local campgrounds on a weekend to see what actual space there is next to a camper when on any given site.

Usually only found on toy haulers that already have a drop down ramp to convert to a patio, otherwise pretty useless.

Some day they'll invent a blow-up patio so the weight limitations won't be so severe.
