Regardless of 18s or 20s, the point is, in general, when comparing apples to apples tires, it typically doesn't cost more to shoe a dually with little skinny dually tires than it does for newer OE srw sizes.
One downside to the duallies is they eat front tires faster because big truck little tire. So that's a factor in dually tires. You're buying 2 sets of steering tires per set of drives, similar lifecycle. Similar duty.
Rears last longer though, so maybe a wash. Same duty cycle with 285 section width on the rear vs 470 section width dictates less wear on the rear.

Current Michelins at 30k have 1/4" tread left all around. Last set only made it 40k total. I did get a big warranty credit to put towards any tire of my choosing. I went with current tires.

Can't help but notice you cherrypicked the most EXPENSIVE tire (20") to compare to the cheapest tire (17"). My 18" tires aren't nearly as expensive as those 20's.


That is because most DRW have 17" tires.

My OEM Firstone AT did not make 30K. The Michelin Defender LRX M/S have 33-34K and are showing lots of tread left. They should make at least 50-60K. I will measure tread depth later this morning. BTW I have the 18's.

The Defenders have 13.5/32's OEM. I am at 9-10/32's. Chris

YEP, same here along 10 in the PalmSprings, CA area. Lifted 2500's with fatty tires bouncing down the highway. Seen several laying on their side.

Only thing I learned from this thread is that some prefer wide rears. :B
