Tailgate storage

Like many truck camper owners, we need to remove the tailgate from our truck before loading the camper. We had been just setting it on a couple of saw horses, but that took quite a bit of space. DH used a bunch of wood scraps we had hanging around to build a rack for it on the wall of the TCSF (truck camper storage facility). He used dowels as pins for the arm - one end acts like a hinge and the other keeps it in place so the tailgate doesn't fall down. It works great and actually makes it easier to put on and off the truck as the tailgate stays oriented the same way it does on the truck. Here are a couple of pictures:

I took mine off and stored it in 2003... it still looks good.

I see it when I help change the kingsized bed at home. I store it between the mattress and the box springs... on Janets side. She has never complained but she is always ready to travel.... never a complaint even when we are gone for months at a time.

I doubt that there will be any changes until our TC falls apart... unless I forget to put it back on the fruck when we sell it.

I like the engineering on the OP's storage system. We have some very creative and intellegent folks in the TC forum.... most of them fit this description for that matter.

I'll be looking for more projects from this guy. I love learning.

Looks good, mine are usually standing up on in on closed cell foam. The current one with the step is extremely heavy and a bit of a pain to get on and off. I'm sure it would be easier if I did it more. ๐Ÿ™‚

My tailgate sat in bubble wrap for ten years off my F250. The first years of service had a full door canopy before going to a truck camper. Surprisingly the paint still matched when the tail gate was put back on and the truck was sold.
